Teaching and Learning

Term 2 is always a busy term. Students at PLSC have multiple opportunities to participate in an applied learning environment via excursions, incursions and hands-on-learning opportunities at the college. 

For our Year 12’s, The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) have outlined the dates and times of the General Achievement Tests (GAT) on Tuesday 16th June.  All students in the Vocational Major, (VM) Year 12 team were required to sit section A Literacy (Reading and Writing) and Numeracy from 9.00 -11.15. 

The General Achievement test measures general knowledge and skills in Math’s, Science, Technology, Humanities, the Arts and Social Sciences. The GAT also measures students Literacy and Numeracy skills against the Victorian standards. This was a great opportunity for our students to apply themselves fully to achieving their very best. 

Many employers seek this information as part of job applications as an indicator of Literacy and Numeracy standards of any prospective employees.

Semester 1 reports will be published via Compass on Friday, 26th June. These reports offer a detailed summary of each student’s academic progress, learning behaviours, and attendance. They are a crucial tool in understanding not just what your child has achieved, but how they have approached their learning.

We strongly encourage all families to take the time to review the report with their children. Discuss the results, effort ratings, and teacher feedback – celebrate the successes and have open and honest conversations about areas where further improvement is needed. It is important for families and carers to understand that ample time is provided to all our students in and outside of the scheduled classroom times to complete set course work. 

In addition to classroom time, there are multiple catch-up sessions available to students to ensure all course work is completed in a timely manner.
