Principal's Message

We have had a busy term and the Peter Lalor community have certainly made me feel very welcome as I have settled in to the Acting Principal role. 

The past few weeks, our students have been busy finishing their Semester One assessments and our year 12 students participated in the GAT on Tuesday, 16th June. In addition, we have celebrated a number of key events including; IDAHOBIT Day, Reconciliation Week and Education Support Staff Day. 

Our 2027, Leadership camp was held on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd May in Geelong. It was a very successful camp and staff and students reported having a great time. 

Our Parent teacher conferences were held on the 12th May and it was nice to see so many of our families on this day. 

On Tuesday 23rd June, we will celebrate our final day for the term with all students on site finishing with an assembly. Assemblies provide a wonderful opportunity for students and staff to come together and celebrate the achievements of the term. It also provides an opportunity to celebrate our College values of Respect, Responsibility, Positive Attitude, Commitment and Teamwork.

One way that some people show our school value of commitment is through being part of our school council. I would like to formal acknowledge and thank our 2026 School

It is wonderful to have so many students on our school council this year. 

In May, I had the privilege of presenting our 2025, Report to Community to our school council that included the following highlights;

• The college achieved a VCE VM completion rate of 95.8%, this was a significant improvement from 86% in 2024 and exceeded similar schools. The improvement in VCE VM completion rates demonstrates the effectiveness of the applied learning model in supporting students to complete their senior secondary education. 
• Students reported positive teacher-student relationships with 53% of students reporting positive endorsement for teacher concern, this was higher than the state at 41% and also a significant increase from 49% in 2023. 
• The percentage of students indicating a positive sense of connectedness was 58%, which was higher than the results of similar schools at 57% and the state at 49%. 

This data is underpinned by strong relationships between staff and students, a proactive wellbeing framework, and a commitment to ensuring that all students feel known, supported and valued. 

Student attendance remains an ongoing area for improvement, with average absence days above state and similar school benchmarks. 

Student Attendance

Attending school every day is important. School provides young people opportunities to learn new things, connect with friends, have fun and develop good habits that help them to succeed. 

As a parent/carer, you are legally required to ensure your child attends school every day, and if your child is absent, you must provide an explanation. We ask families to make appointments for your child outside of school hours and keep family holidays to outside term time whenever possible. 

We keep detailed records for each student absence. Please be reminded that students need 90% attendance as part of VCE VM satisfactory completion.

2027 Enrolments

We are starting the process of enrolments for 2027. Please be sure to contact Simone in the office if you know of anyone who is hoping to enroll at Peter Lalor Secondary College for 2027 

I would like to remind all families that the Semester Two reports will be released on Friday 26th June, via Compass.
