Lion's Lego Competition- Runners Up

On Friday 7 November, 8 students and 1 reserve attended the annual Lion's Club Lego Competition held at Mornington Community House on Wilsons Rd. The competition was opened to only one team per school, a minimum of 5 and up to 8 students from Years 4 and 5. We had 10 students who were keen and they all attended a number of lunch and recess planning, designing and building sessions. Each student was aware that there was a chance they may be randomly selected as a reserve, due to the strict entry requirements. It is a credit to all, for their resilience and persistence.
Our team was made up of 3 x Y5 students: Dan C (Team Captain), Oliver D and Lucas M and 5 x Y4 students: Harry W, Lachie M, Cody C, Luca M, Charlie K. Isla B was our 1st reserve and official cheer squad, and our 2nd reserve was Judah E.
The students displayed confidence, creativity, teamwork, engineering skills, collaborative communication and leadership during the 90 minute competition. They competed against 9 other schools from the local community, and to say they did MEPS proud was an understatement.
Parents and Grandparents came to watch and support the students, and they were blown away with the design and engineering skills that the team executed to build their 'Flywheel'. The construction had certain rules that needed to be followed and adhered to. The rules were: It must be a static build, which incorporated moving parts, only use the Lego included in the given Lego Kit and no help could be given from the teacher or onlookers. I am very proud to say that our team's construction was 100% their ideas, creation, design, improvements and adjustments, some additions were included when they realised they had more time at the end of the build - a real credit to them.
It was super exciting when MEPS was awarded the Runner's Up prize which we will proudly display in the school's trophy cabinet.
I would like to give a big shout out to the Lion's Club who organised the whole event, as well as Bendigo Bank who sponsored the competition.
