From the Principal...

Hello everyone and amazingly we come to the end of week 6 of the term and have 5 weeks remaining in the school year!
We have a lot of wonderful opportunities ahead on a busy, but fun filled calendar.
We wanted to acknowledge that there have been a number of excursions and events posted to Compass over the past week and to thank you for your understanding during this busy end-of-year period.
At this time of year, we must finalise all event costings and ensure everything is processed before the end of the school year. This sometimes means a few notices need to be released close together, so we appreciate your patience and support with this.
Please note that all schools are currently experiencing accessibility issues with SSB and we are awaiting advice from the Department regarding when access will be restored. We apologise for any delays in processing SSB payments during this time and thank you for your understanding.
All excursions and incursions for 2025 have now been published and no further costs will be added to Compass for this year.
We truly appreciate your cooperation and continued support as we head into the final (and very exciting) weeks of term!
Remembrance Day
On Tuesday, 11th November, our school collectively paused to observe Remembrance Day. This special day gives us a chance to remember and honour the men and women who have served, and continue to serve, in times of war, conflict, and peacekeeping.
At 11 o’clock, we joined in a minute’s silence to reflect on the bravery and sacrifices made by so many people, both in the past and today. The poppies worn by students and staff symbolise remembrance and hope for a peaceful future.
I was honoured to join two of our school leaders, Hugh and Lucy in representing MEPS at our local Mt Eliza service. Hugh and Lucy placed a wreath at the memorial site in the village.
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make our Remembrance Day ceremony so meaningful. Together, we continue to keep the spirit of remembrance alive in our hearts.
“Lest we forget.”
Student Leaders
We are currently in the process of selecting our student leaders for 2026. Over the past two weeks I have been privileged to facilitate the school leaders processes. I have received written applications, conducted interviews and surveyed the whole staff team around our applicants. We have a wonderful group of students at MEPS with many skills and talents. For some, the role of visible leadership is an enjoyable opportunity. In any circumstance we promote that all students are leaders in their own way. We all share the responsibility of leading our own learning, our own choices and our ability to enact our school values.
Congratulations to our four school leaders for 2026:
Ryan Parrott, Isla-Rose Cullin, Ethan Goldfinch and Indy Richards.
These students will be announced at our assembly next week.
We have a range of resultant leadership roles to fill over coming weeks. Roles such as Learning Leaders, Wellbeing Leaders, House Captains, etc. Good luck to all those students whom aspire to these roles but know that we value and respect all students to be their best and support our senior students to act as role models for others.
Australian Maths Competition
We have recently received the certificates for those students who participated in the Australian Maths Competition earlier in the year. Congratulations to all the students involved and well done on your achievements.
We had the following students presented their certificate at assembly today.
Amelie Pemberton - Distinction
Jack Heath - Distinction
Francis Jiang - High Distinction
Adam Liu - AMC Award & Best in School
Transitions
A reminder that next week we will continue our school processes and supports around transition. This will provide an opportunity for students to be mixed into different groupings with a view to support the notion of change and transitioning into 2026.
A reminder that these groupings are not necessarily next year’s class groups and that the different groups will not be necessarily taught by next year’s teachers of that year level.
Christmas Concert and Fun Afternoon
Looking ahead, please mark Thursday December 11 on your home calendar. In the afternoon on this day we will be holding our Christmas concert (1.30-3pm TBC) followed by a fun afternoon for everyone to enjoy the school grounds (3.30-6pm TBC). During the after school time we will have a BBQ, music playing and jumping castles for everyone to enjoy. This will provide some social time for families to connect as we celebrate the end of the year. Families are welcome to BYO drinks and food, picnic style around our school.
I hope you enjoy your weekend and the sunshine continues!
Michael
