Teaching & Learning

Introducing the Keysborough Secondary College
Teaching and Learning Model
Evidence-based learning for every student
We are excited to introduce our new Teaching and Learning Model, designed to ensure every student experiences high-quality, consistent, and engaging learning across all year levels.
Grounded in the latest research from the Department of Education and the Australian Education Research Organisation, our new Teaching & Learning Model aims to enhance student engagement, deepen understanding, and support individual growth. The model is built around four key elements:
- Engage – Sparking curiosity and setting clear learning intentions
- Explain – Using explicit teaching and scaffolding to support understanding
- Enrich – Deepening learning through differentiation, applied tasks, and critical thinking
Evaluate – Supporting growth through regular feedback and assessment
As we embed this model into our classrooms, parents may notice changes to the way lesson plans appear on Compass. These updates are designed to give greater clarity about:
- What students are learning
- How they are supported to apply new skills
How their progress is assessed and feedback provided
To bring the model to life, teachers are being equipped with practical tools, including a Teacher Reference Chart featuring proven strategies such as High Impact Teaching Strategies, scaffolded skill development, applied learning opportunities, and targeted differentiation. These tools help ensure every lesson is both challenging and accessible for all learners.
With this model in place, we are creating structured, inclusive, and engaging classrooms where every student can thrive.
VCE Unit 3&4 Practice examinations
To support students in preparing for the upcoming VCAA examinations, the school will be conducting Unit 3 & 4 Practice Exams during Term 3, Week 9 and Term 4, Week 1.
- English, EAL and English Language: Friday 19th September, during Periods 3–5
- All other subjects: Please see Compass for your scheduled exam time.
Practice exams play a vital role in helping students prepare for their final VCAA assessments. All students enrolled in a VCE Unit 3 & 4 subject are strongly encouraged to participate.
Sitting practice exams under authentic, timed conditions allows students to:
- Experience the pressures and expectations of the actual examination period
- Refine their time management skills
- Apply their knowledge under exam conditions
Build confidence for the real assessments
How parents can support their childThe exam period can be a stressful time for students. Parents can make a significant difference by:
- Creating a supportive study environment – Provide a quiet, organised space with minimal distractions.
- Encouraging healthy routines – Ensure your child gets enough sleep, eats well, and takes regular breaks during study sessions.
- Promoting balance – Encourage time for exercise, hobbies, and social connection to reduce stress.
- Being a positive presence – Offer encouragement, acknowledge their effort, and avoid adding pressure.
- Monitoring for stress – Be aware of changes in mood, sleep patterns, or motivation, and seek support if needed.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help our students achieve their personal best in the upcoming VCAA examinations.
