College Principal Report

As Term 3 gathers momentum, we are reminded of the strength, pride, and spirit of our Keysborough College community. There is much to celebrate across both campuses, with highlights still to come.

One of the most anticipated events this year is our Keysborough College Community Day on Saturday 13th September from 11am. This will be a vibrant celebration for students, families and our local community, with stalls, food, music, dance, face painting, and even an animal petting farm. It will be a family friendly occasion that truly reflects our RED values of Respect, Excellence, and Diversity. We warmly invite everyone to join us for this special day.

Another exciting highlight is the Opening Night of our Addams Family production on Thursday 4th September. Our students have worked tirelessly, supported by dedicated staff, to bring this musical to life. The custom built set, costumes, and rehearsals all showcase the immense creativity and talent within our College. Tickets are available via our website and we strongly encourage families to support our cast and crew in what promises to be a fantastic performance season. We are incredibly proud of the effort and commitment our students have shown.

Our academic program has also been a focus this term. Course counselling for Year 10 students moving into Year 11 has now been completed. Pleasingly, there has been a significant increase in student selections for both VET and VCE Vocational Major pathways, which coincides with our newly opened Vocational Centre at the Banksia campus. This demonstrates that our students are making informed choices about their futures, taking advantage of the diverse opportunities Keysborough College offers. It also reflects our belief that success can be achieved through multiple pathways, each equally valued and supported.

In addition, our ATOSS (Attitudes to School Survey) results are cause for celebration. Students reported significant improvements across all measures, placing our College above the State average, above similar schools, and above those in our local network. These results highlight the positive culture we are building together and affirm the importance of our RED values in guiding both student and staff behaviours. It is a whole school effort to lift our results by the magnitude we have and all are congratulated while we continue to strive for even greater heights.

Further to this, our NAPLAN results for Years 7 to 9 show strong growth, particularly in spelling and punctuation, where Keysborough College students are now performing above the State, similar schools, and network schools. This achievement is a direct reflection of the hard work of both our students and teachers, and it demonstrates that the learning strategies we are embedding are delivering measurable outcomes. Again, the hard work being done this year to focus on improving student literacy and numeracy skills will continue to support our students in the years ahead.

As we continue through Term 3, I am filled with pride in the way our students are learning, engaging, and thriving. Whether it be in the classroom, on the stage, on the sporting field, or through community connections, Keysborough College continues to showcase the talents, aspirations, and achievements of our students.

We look forward to seeing you at both the Community Day and the Addams Family production, and to celebrating the many successes of our students together.
