Brinbeal Poetry Slam

Throughout Term 2, Year 8 students learnt about Poetry in their English classes. At the end of the term, students had the opportunity to participate in the first Brinbeal Poetry Slam Competition. There were three outstanding Winners as voted by Year 8 students, being Harprabh 8F, Alicia 8F, Pardeep 8I. We would like to thank all the students who participated in the competition, as there are some outstanding poets at Brinbeal Secondary College. Some examples of student poetry are below.

In the Night. By Harprabh

In caves beneath the sky so old They cried for those who died. With fear and voices called They kept their pain inside.

They said the gods had caused it all The sickness and the pain. It’s a time where they all fall small

Then locked the door again.

A sickness came through winds so still And death had many ways. It moved like shadows, cold and chill And burned through towns for days.

No cure was found, no healer came Just silence, thick with dread. The stars looked on with distant frame As everyone was dead.

Sometimes friendships will burn out. By Alicia

Best friends forever, we say as we have no doubt.

Our friendship necklaces say otherwise, make note of that.

Sometimes friendships will burn out.

We thought our friendship would always stay so bright and standout.

Me and her became so close, we even got matching hats.

Best friends forever, we say as we have no doubt.

We always hung out and even knew each other's whereabouts.

So many memories were made, like the time I bought her a baseball bat.

Sometimes friendships will burn out.

One day she met someone else, and with them, I felt left out.

They matched together every day and when I joined, they called me a copycat.

Best friends forever, we say as we have no doubt.

After telling my best friend about how I felt, she told me I needed to chill out.

I even found out they were secretly talking behind my back.

Sometimes friendships will burn out.

After that, I stopped talking to them, it was like I had faded out.

The last thing I heard was them going as far as to calling me an overreacting brat.

Best friends forever, we say as we have no doubt.

Sometimes friendships will burn out.

Sunrise. By Areeb

The stars were shining in the night, But slowly went away with the light. The sky was soft, a tone of gold, A new day began to unfold.

The darkness faded with no trace,  Then Light had to replace, The sun said “hi” , a glowing eye, That smothered warmth across the sky.

The leaves were still in the breeze, The birds flew low beside the trees. Then one landed on his feet,  And chirped a melody so sweet.

One step closer to the gloomy night,

But the sun reminds us of the light,

The sun brings hope and new time,

This will be my last rhyme.

Friends.  By Hartej

You can tell everything to your friends

You can also trust them

A nice friends tell you what to do

To help you out from a sticky situation

A nice friend will be free for you every time

To do whatever you say to do

A nice friend will fight for you and save you

To help you out
