Congratulations to Hrishi who competed at the State Cross Country Championships on Thursday 24th July. He placed 84th with a time of 12 minutes and 38 seconds. Hrishi reported:
The track was very steep and slippery it was very difficult to run on and I gave it my full effort.
Well done!
Year 8 Boys Table Tennis
We started the day by boarding the van at around 9 am. When we arrived at Eagle Stadium, we went straight to the court where the Table Tennis Tournament was going to occur. When we arrived, our old nemesis, Good News, was already training. We put our stuff down, grabbed rackets and table tennis balls and each found a table and partner to practice with.
At around 9:45, the conductor blew the whistle and explained the instructions and rules to the teams. Following this, we received the ‘Bad News’ that we were going to play ‘Good News’, and we decided the order for the players. Prabhnoor would be Seed 1, Ahmed would be Seed 2, Jorawar Seed 3, Kennedy Seed 4, Mahdi Seed 5 and Cooper Seed 6.
The players were allocated their respective tables, and play began with the Top 2 Seeds playing Singles. Prabhnoor tried his best, but against a tough opponent he unfortunately lost 3 sets to 0. Ahmed also struggled to get many points due to the incredible skill of the opponent and was powerless against their crazy spins and smashes. He too lost 3-0.
Following those two tough losses were the matches of Seed 3 and 4, Jorawar and Kennedy. Jorawar got off to a flying start, leading 7-3 in the opening set, but his opponent was able to pull it back somewhat. However, Jorawar handed Good News their first defeat by winning 3-2. Kennedy, however, did not have the same luck. He tried his best, but despite his reputation as one of the best and most consistent table tennis players in our school, he succumbed to the pressure and lost 3-1.
With the match at stake, Prabhnoor and Ahmed went into their doubles match against the top 2 seeds. However, the pressure was too much for the pair, and the Good News players won with ease. Knowing that the match was over, Ahmed and Prabhnoor went and practiced, hoping to sharpen their skills before the next game. Meanwhile, Mahdi and Cooper had already finished their doubles, and had unfortunately lost 3-0. It was a tough loss for Brinbeal, and it would take some real grit and determination to recover.
Before the next match, it was decided by the Brinbeal team that Cooper and Mahdi would play Singles in this match and Jorawar and Kennedy would play doubles together. Prabhnoor and Ahmed went into their next matches with high hopes, and were rewarded with comfortable 3-0 victories. They could now take a breather.
Next, Cooper and Mahdi played their respective matches, and Cooper showed just how good he is at bouncing back from defeat. He was able to win in a classy 3-0 performance. Mahdi, however, was not as lucky, and he lost 3-1.
It was time for doubles, and Ahmed and Prabhnoor went on an absolute rampage. With Prabhnoor’s deadly smash and serve backed up with Ahmed’s defense, the duo beat their opponents by 3-0. This was the team’s most comprehensive win, and the set score was 11-0, 11-1, 11-1. This was followed up by Jorawar and Kennedy’s doubles match, which they won 3-0. They showed great skill and discipline, and the two’s similar playstyles and friendship resulted in great communication and most importantly, a victory.
The next two matches were very similar to this, and Brinbeal comfortably won them, although Truganina P-9 managed to give them a scare in their last match.
At around 12:45, the matches finished, and the players decided to play for fun. At 1:45, the team exited the stadium with smiles on their faces and entered the van. They arrived at the school at around 2 pm, and had to go to classes.
The players all had had a lot of fun and represented the college values brilliantly, and most importantly, we were able to bond as a team. We came second out of five teams, but we are not sure if we made the Division Finals (probably not though).
The final win ratings were:
- Overall Seed 6: Mahdi: 1 win out of 4 (25%)
- Overall Seed 5: Cooper: 2 wins out of 4 (50%)
- Overall Seed 4: Kennedy: 3 wins out of 4 (75%)
- Overall Seed 3: Jorawar: 4 wins out of 4 (100%)
- Overall Seed 2: Ahmed: 6 wins out of 8 (75%)
- Overall Seed 1: Prabhnoor: 5 wins out of 8 (62.5%)

Today, we went to our table tennis tournament, where we had the chance to compete against other schools to advance to the next round. All of us tried our best— Shayaan achieved 4 wins, Priyanshu and Arib each got 3 wins, Adiv earned 2 wins, Sohum secured 1 win, and Kimtai was very brave by stepping in to play first and represent our school, despite facing tough opponents. In the end, everyone gave their best effort. After all the matches, the results were announced: we finished in 5th place, but we all performed our best.

What I enjoy about Table Tennis is that I like playing with new people. Also, I feel happy that I won the first two sets. What I achieved was that we trained with our teammates and try against other schools.

I may off lost all my games, but before this, I said I wanted to get at least 2 games. I ended up not achieving my goal, but at least I was able to win one set many times. I never lost, I just didn't win.

Year 7 Girls Table Tennis
We started the day with fear, zero confidence and no energy. When we got there we did a trial run and realised we had to build on some techniques. Two of the members from the girls team didn't show up so we had a group of 2, we played 2 single matches. Later Miss Phan explained and helped us to correctly serve, then Japji and an opponent played a tough and tiring match which we won with the opponent getting 10 points. After that Rafia and another point tied with 12 points then came the doubles..... We versed Wyndham Central and won with 12 points then we had another double which we unfortunately lost. Then we returned to school happily and confidently!

Year 8 Girls Basketball
Yesterday was the inter school basketball competition, and our team absolutely smashed it, winning 3 out of 4 games. The energy was great, with everyone cheering each other on and playing their hardest. The last game was definitely the highlight as we won 24 – 0! Every player gave 100%, whether it was making great passes, making shots, or keeping the other team from scoring at all. It was such a fun day, and we all left the court feeling proud and exhausted.

Today the girls basketball team went out and represented Brinbeal at eagle stadium, the girls ended up taking home 3 wins but unfortunately lost one game and didn’t make it to finals. The girls still did really well and I had a good time playing and supporting Brinbeal. the boys team also did very good, taking home 3 wins and losing 1 game so unfortunately both boys and girls didn’t make it to finals but it was still a very good day.

Year 8 Boys Basketball
Our inter-school basketball sport day was a huge success, filled with energy, teamwork, and excitement. We played four intense matches against some tough competition, and our hard work paid off as we won three of them. Every player gave their best—whether it was making crucial shots, defending with determination, or encouraging teammates from the bench. The crowd’s cheers kept our spirits high, and each victory felt even sweeter because we worked for it together. Even in the one game we didn’t win, we learned valuable lessons that will make us stronger for next time. Overall, it was a proud and memorable day for our team.

We did lose both teams, but we had such a good time. Overall, I had fun, we did well, and both our teams did a good job representing Brinbeal Secondary College.

Today in athletics, the 13 year old girls made it to regionals for relay's for the first time in Brinbeal. Our starting was rough, being behind 3 schools but catching up in the second leg and eventually we caught up and got first. We ended up beating 6 schools in our heat with no practice, which we are very proud of.
