Principal's Message

Dear Families, Students and Community Members,

This week brings us past the middle of Term 3. Being only a 9 week term, it has already been jam packed with school based events, sport and assessments. While it is a shorter term than usual there is still lots of time for students to make positive changes to improve their learning behaviours and academic skill before the end of term.

Learning Characteristic Reports and Compass

I strongly encourage all students and families to look at the most recent Learning Characteristic reports available through Compass. Taking the time to reflect on current learning behaviours shown this semester and setting a goal in one area can lead to an improvement in academic achievement as well as overall educational experience. The upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences to be held on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th September are a great way to gain further feedback on your child’s progress.

Parking and Driving Around Brinbeal Secondary College

It is great to lead a school with so many supportive members of the community and so, it is rare to share concerns from residents.

Unfortunately, we have received a large number of concerns from the community about the driving behaviour of parents/carers when dropping off and picking up students.

Concerns have been raised about speed, but more concerning is the number of parents trying to complete a 3-point turn directly in front of the school, holding up traffic.

We have also had reports of a number of near misses, with parents/carers stopping in the middle of the road and not parking in the parking bays to let their child out.

Here at Brinbeal Secondary College, we are very fortunate to have a large amount of parking spaces surrounding the entire school. We ask that parents ensure they are using the designated car parking; your child can walk to your car, rather than having to always be picked up directly out the front of the school.

School Review

All schools must undergo a school review every 4 years. The school review informs the development of the school’s 4-year School Strategic Plan. The school reviewer also assesses compliance with the Curriculum and Student Learning Minimum Standard.

The school review is facilitated by the reviewer and includes the principal, senior education improvement leader (SEIL), school council president and challenge partners. Our review panel members included:

  • Jeremy Ludowyke (Reviewer - external appointee)
  • Sandra Eglezos (Senior Engagement and Improvement Leader from Department of Education)
  • Khaled Elshomouny (school council president)
  • Tami-Jo Richter (Principal of Doherty’s Creek P-9 College)
  • Konnie Prades (Principal of Clyde Secondary College).

In preparation for the three day review, the College has prepared a self evaluation of our progress measured against Department of Education initiatives; school assessment data; attendance data and collected survey data (parent and student data). The review panel will speak with a selection of parents, students, staff; observe classes and examine current processes.

The school review process begins next week; the school review report once finalised, will inform the development of our four year Strategic Plan which will guide the teaching and learning development at the College over the coming years.

Kind Regards,

Mr. Simon Haber

College Principal
