This year is a very exciting year for members of the global Catholic faith community; the Jubilee Year is still underway, and now, TWO new saints have been canonised. Saint Carlo Acutis and Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati, were canonised last Sunday, September 7th in Rome, as many of our families celebrated Father’s Day. Carlo Acutis was scheduled to be canonised earlier this year. However, his canonisation was postponed due to the passing of Pope Francis.
Canonisation is the official admission of a deceased person into sainthood by the Catholic Church. I was very blessed to pray for the St Brendan’s Community during my 2024 pilgrimage to Assisi, Italy at The Church of Santa Maria Maggiore; the resting place of Blessed Carlo.
This week, each child will bring home a Carlo Acutis Canonisation prayer card, for families to reflect on and be guided in prayer should they so choose. Both of these saints are very special, as they are patron saints to young people. Carlo particularly so, as he is the very first millennial saint of The Catholic Church. To learn more about our newest saints, please take a look at these Catholic Weekly resources.
Thank you to the wonderful Year Three and Four staff and students for leading their beautiful whole school Mass, for Fathers & Special Men to the students last Thursday, September 4th. Your reflection and beautiful flower tributes were very special. Thank you to the fathers, grandads and other special visitors who came to celebrate Mass with us.
