Work Experience at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix 2025
Thursday 13 March 2025
Hi I’m Liam,
In the future I want to be a motorsport mechanic and on Thursday the 13th March, I was able to get work experience with BRT (Blanchard Racing Team) for the supercars on that day. During the 12 hours I was working there we had to do race setups and general car maintenance. During the second practice James Courtney, one of our drivers had crashed out destroying the full rear.
Once we had gotten it into the pits we had 4 hours to get it ready for the race. We knew we were going to miss out on the two qualifying sessions meaning we would start at the back of the grid.
Our second driver Arron Cameron was new to the team. He is a rookie in supercars and it was his first season, so we knew we wouldn't have the best results. He made a lot of mistakes but overall was getting good experience and a good understanding of how the cars work and handle. As it got closer to the end of the day for the last race we were getting the car closer to being race ready. When we had finished the car, one of the race officials came and said that we were too late, we were one minute off from getting the car to the race. Overall that day was a terrible day for BRT, and so was the rest of the weekend and our highest result was P15.
During this work experience it locked in what I wanted to be - I didn't want to be a normal automotive mechanic, I wanted to be a motorsport mechanic. I already knew that but it definitely locked it in.
