Pi Day

Friday 14 March 2-25

Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π. Pi Day is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant figures of π.

International Pi Day was celebrated at Mordialloc College with yummy party pies on offer for any student that could recite Pi to 5 decimal places, tell us a maths joke, explain why Pi is irrational or give us a formula using Pi.

Two of the best (and most used) maths jokes were “Why was 6 afraid of 7? Because 7, 8, 9” and “What is a mathematicians favourite food? Pi!”

Honourable Mentions to both Sadie Sanders and James Collison (both of Year 8) who were able to recite Pi to 50 decimal places! And a massive shout out to the maths staff who helped run Pi Day!
