A Family Celebration

Last Thursday’s Gala Dinner was a wonderful celebration of MITS and our students.  Again this year the dinner was sold out, with 450 people coming together to show their support for our remarkable students as they take on the challenge of going to school away from home.

On a beautiful Melbourne night our Class of 2019 proudly welcomed guests as the food&desire chefs roasted whole barramundi over hot coals in the forecourt of Carousel and MITS Class of 2016 student Johnny Minjin played didge.  Our hilarious neighbour Hamish Blake acted as MC again and Australian icon Christine Anu wowed guests with a very special performance, including the Warumpi Band song “My Island Home”.  Bruce, Ruby, Rumerlea, Sam, Latisha and Marley all took to the lectern and spoke magnificently.

The theme for this year’s dinner was “Our MITS Family”.  We were particularly fortunate to have MITS Class of 2018 and Class of 2020 mum Kelly Rosas speak about her family’s journey with MITS.  It was moving and inspiring to hear of her sons’ commitment to education and the courage of them and their family to make the big step to MITS.

While the Gala Dinner is a celebration of our students, it’s also a very important fundraiser for MITS.  Again this year our MITS Family chose to support MITS with great generosity, to ensure that many more students are able to benefit from a great MITS education.  It was a very special night for all of our MITS Family, and we’re already excited for next year’s dinner!
