Prayer and Reflection

Advent Prayer

The First Candle - the Candle of Hope

God of hope, we enter your holy season of Advent giving thanks to you for the love you have for all of us.

We begin to prepare for the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Saviour, your Son, Jesus.

With the promise of your Son, we live with great hope and anticipation.

Hope in the knowledge of the love you continue to give us.

Hope in the knowledge that baby Jesus is coming into our lives and hearts to heal us and love us.

We are people of hope, and no matter how difficult times sometimes are,

we know that your Son is coming and you continue to shower us with your love.

Amen.

Reflection - Advent Season

The Advent wreath is a Christian tradition symbolising the passage of the four weeks of Advent. It is a circular candle holder that typically holds four candles. During the season of Advent, one candle on the wreath is lit each Sunday, until all four candles are lit. Each candle represents an aspect of the spiritual preparation for the celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. The word Advent (Latin adventus, “coming”) initially described the whole mystery of the Incarnation. The conception of Jesus was an Advent, so too was his birth and what will be his final coming at the end of time. The season of Advent gives expression to each of these themes.

Mission and Spiritual Formation Report

This week we celebrated our whole College Thanksgiving Mass in the Hall. Fr Chris presided over the celebration and the newly elected SLC performed the reading ministries at the Mass. The First Reading focused our attention on God’s power and might and his never failing mercy and in the Gospel we heard about Jesus’ desire and ability to heal us. This is why we look forward to Christmas with great joy, because the God we welcome into our hearts and lives at Christmas is a God of mighty power and love. Our prayers of Intercession focused on thanking God for his many blessings and presence in our lives this past twelve months. At the end of the Mass, Fr Chris blessed and commissioned the ten Year 10 students travelling to Perth for the Australian Catholic Youth Festival; Rebecca Cameron, Tazmin Darnell, Brianna Elliott, Alana Faulkner, Megan Filicietti, Maeve Galvin, Hannah Kampe, Tully Munro, Emily Pring and Martha Smith. On behalf of the College, community I would like to thank Fr Chris for his continuing support of our liturgical program.
