PDHPE/Sport Report

Once again it has been an extremely busy term for the PDHPE Faculty. This term our students have learnt about a wide range of health issues affecting young people today and our practical units have seen students continue to develop their movement skills.
Year 7
Year 7 undertook their swimming program at Gosford Pool. This gave students an opportunity to express their talents outside the classroom while also learning about the importance of various survival swimming strokes. Students were ability grouped to ensure they got the most out of each sessions with our more able swimmers challenging themselves in relay based events. While our learn to swim students participated in survival strokes, kickboard practice and treading water.
Year 8
Summer Safety has been the theme for Year 8 this term, with students learning about the risk factors associated with skin cancer. Students undertook a range of activities on how best to protect themselves in the Australian sun.
Year 9
Think Before you Click. With the launch of the new E-Safety website students have been learning about the importance of Digital Citizenship, Digital Intelligence and their online footprint https://www.esafety.gov.au/
Year 10
As students in Year 10 finish with the Stage 5 program they have learnt about Risk Taking behaviours in particular making effective decision making around alcohol and safe partying as they come the end of the year
In practical PDHPE students have engaged in a wide range of games and sports including fitness based activities, boxercise, volleyball, racquet sports, bocce, basketball, oz tag, soccer and with the implementation of the new PDHPE syllabus in Year 7 and 9 in 2019 we hope to build on these sports to ensure that physical activity becomes a regular part our students lives.
Year 9 and 10 PASS Kayaking
Year 9 and 10 PASS students attended Avoca beach for their annual kayaking and paddleboarding trip. Year 9 students participated in Duck Hunting Games while our Year 10 undertook some paddleboarding challenges. A huge thanks to Miss Imer and Mr Mellish for organising the excursion.
Sports Selections Term 1 2019
Sports Selections for students who are currently in Year 7, 8 and 9 finished up on Friday 14 December. All students in these year groups should have now selected their sport for Term 1 2019. Payments will now be accepted by the office staff and all sports rolls for next year will be placed on the PDHPE noticeboard in Week 10.
Year 7 and 8 Brisbane Water Zone Gala Day
On Friday 30 November, 40 students across Year 7 and 8 participated in the annual Brisbane Water Zone Gala Day at Adcock Park. Due to the poor weather during the week all sports were moved to the netball courts. Students participated in kick tennis, end zone, bin ball and netball. The day was all about fun and enjoyment and an opportunity to meet other students from different schools within the zone. Congratulations to the following students who represented Henry Kendall on the day.
A huge thanks to our three Year 9 PASS students who umpired numerous games throughout the day.
