Interact

A big thank you to all who supported Interact's Ice Cream and Spider Fundraiser for Drought Relief on Friday. Lots of fun was had and all money will be going to Rural Aid to support our struggling farmers. We would also like to thank Gosford Woolworths for their kind donation.

I would like to extend a very warm thank you and congratulations to President, Charlotte Tucker, and the Interact committee and club members for 2018. They have given their time and energy working enthusiastically on a number of projects raising money and awareness for the Red Cross, Solar Powered Backpacks, Coast Shelter, RU OK? Day and Rural Aid. The school community is very fortunate to have so many caring and compassionate young people wanting to make a difference.

Year 10 Powerhouse Museum Excursion

Our Year 10 students enjoyed a trip to Sydney today as part of their Stage 6 preparation programme.

We all had the opportunity to explore various aspects of Australian culture at the Powerhouse Museum and we also experienced their very advanced security system.

Alumni Project

Henry Kendall Alumni Project has now entered into a new phase which to brings to fruition one our main goals: to track our year 12 graduates through their ensuing years to track what career path they take, are they satisfied with this path and has Henry Kendall prepared them well?

Earlier this year we surveyed our 2017 Cohort. The results are in and we have now published our first report. This can be found on our web page which is being regularly updated. The Alumni Connects tab has also been updated which shows over 380 Alumni who have given us permission to publish basic career details from years 1970-2017. To view these, log onto the Henry Kendall High School web page

https://henrykenda-h.schools.nsw.gov.au/

click on the Alumni tab, click the next link and this will open the Alumni web page. The tabs on the left hand side will open the above mentioned points of interest.

A big thanks goes to Damien Clift who has been instrumental in the development of the Alumni web page and many of the technical issues to make the Alumni Project happen. Unfortunately for us, Damien will be teaching in Newcastle next year which is much closer to home.

A warm welcome to our Librarian, Shelly Klein, onto the Alumni team. Shelly will bring skills and creativity that will continue to grow the Alumni Project. An area of focus for Shelly will be to gather as many Alumni stories as possible to fill out the Stories section of our Web page which is still at its early stages. We only have a few stories so far but we hope to see that grow dramatically over the next year. If you are an ex-Henry Kendall student or you know of one who would be good to add to our stories, the “Alumni Stories” tab on the web page can be used to make this happen. You could alternatively email Shelly directly: shelley.klein@det.nsw.edu.au

Speaking of Alumni Stories, Nathan Hunt, a 2004 cohort alumni, shared a little of his very interesting story to a whole school assembly earlier this term. Nathan now works as “Cut Scene Artist” in New York for Rock Star Games. His story is yet is a work in progress and we hope to publish it on our web page early next year.

Henry Kendall’s 50 year anniversary is in 2020. We are looking forward to that great celebration, and to building the momentum of our Alumni Project as it becomes part of the fabric of Henry Kendall High School.

Alexandra now joins Senjay Turner and Mason Colwell who have also been successful at making it through the first round of this prestigious competition.

We wish them all well in the next round to be held in February next year.
