CAPA News

CAPA Faculty

Well, 2018 has been another huge year in the CAPA faculty with our students showcasing their talents and skills throughout the year. We’ve had wonderful art displayed at our annual VisTAS exhibition, as well as the HSC excellence of Nikau Davis being selected for ArtExpress. Our Drama students have been on stage during the year at Performing Arts Night, as well as the Year 9 class putting on their self-written and produced play for parents and friends. The Henry Kendall High School Dance Ensemble represented our school at the Central Coast Dance Festival, as well as at Performing Arts Night and numerous celebration assemblies. Henry Kendall High School Musicians have been performing around the region at Central Coast Showcase, our annual On-Track Music Showcase at the Entertainment Grounds Gosford, Performing Arts Night, HK’s Got Talent, and numerous celebration assemblies and other community events. We would also like to acknowledge Sophie Eickelman’s nomination for Encore, and her acceptance to perform at Reprise HSC Showcase at the Conservatorium of Newcastle next year.

As I reflect on these amazing achievements we have had in CAPA during 2018, it is bittersweet – you may or may not have heard that I won’t be teaching at Henry Kendall High School in 2019. I’ve accepted a temporary contract at a school closer to my home in Newcastle so that I can spend more quality time with my young family and less time travelling up and down the M1. As I clean out my desk and say my farewells, I’d like to thank all of the staff at Henry Kendall High School for their ongoing support of this faculty – particularly all of the CAPA staff I’ve had the pleasure to work with since I began here in 2011 as a fresh-faced, naïve University graduate. To my current staff, Jade Draper, Mary Gillard, Dawn Keft and Janelle Wilkinson – thank you for your tireless efforts to harness our students’ passions, giving them an outlet to express their emotions, challenging them to think creatively and critically, and providing them with a safe place to do all of this as well as opportunities to put it on show for our community. I know they will be in good hands.

I will certainly still be popping in whenever I can next year for performances and other events I can get down here for, and who knows what the future holds, I could even return at some stage. If not for the tyranny of distance, Henry Kendall High School would be where I would, ideally, retire. Thank you to all of my students, parents, carers and community members for accepting me and supporting me. I will miss this place.

Year 8 Visual Arts

Students in Year 8 have been working on a unit called Great Wave, it is influenced by the work of Japanese artist Hokusai. Students have created a series of artwork inspired by both Visuals and texts featuring the sea. They have considered their own personal stories and incorporated their names and an exploration of aerial images.
