Your child’s term Religious Education assessment task with work sample and rubric is now available to view online via the Parent Access Module (PAM), children and teachers have worked very hard during the term to complete these assessments and show their knowledge gained through our Source of Life curriculum.

Please take time to view and read these with your child.

Project Compassion – ‘Be more’

Thank you to all children filling our Caritas boxes with their coins as a part of our Social Justice Lenten journey. I will be announcing the class totals with the money raised at the Easter Sunday Liturgy presented by the Grade ones and twos.

Sacramental Program for 2021

Sacrament of Reconciliation with students from years 3 and 4. There will be a Parent Information meeting – for the program Steps in Faith.

This information Session will be held Wednesday April the 21st.

This meeting is for the parents of Grade three and four students who have been baptised in the Catholic Church.

We ask that a parent from each family is present at the meeting. It will be held in the Mercy Centre at 6.30 pm.

The sacrament liturgy in June will be led by Fr John Paul on Wednesday the 2nd of June.

"After eight days Jesus came in and stood among them."

Preparing to hear God's word

Can you think of some things that you believe in, but cannot see?

You cannot ‘see’ the wind, but you know it is there if you watch the leaves moving in the trees.

You cannot ‘see’ love, but you know if somebody loves you by their words and actions.

Can you think of any other examples?

The Gospel Story

Jesus appeared to his disciples after he had risen from the dead. Jesus showed them the wounds in his hands and side to show them it was really him.

Thomas was not with the others when Jesus appeared that day. He did not believe that Jesus was alive until later, when he saw Jesus for himself.

When Thomas could see and touch the scars of Jesus, he believed.

Jesus said that the people who are really blessed are the ones who believe in him even though they have never seen him.

The Gospel

A reading from the holy gospel according to John 20:19-29

After eight days Jesus came in and stood among them.

The disciples were afraid of the Jewish leaders, and on the evening of that same Sunday they locked themselves in a room. Suddenly, Jesus appeared in the middle of the group. He greeted them and showed them his hands and his side. When the disciples saw the Lord, they became very happy.

After Jesus had greeted them again, he said, "I am sending you, just as the Father has sent me." Then he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone's sins, they will be forgiven. But if you don't forgive their sins, they will not be forgiven."

Although Thomas the Twin was one of the twelve disciples, he was not with the others when Jesus appeared to them. So they told him, "We have seen the Lord!" But Thomas said, "First, I must see the nail scars in his hands and touch them with my finger. I must put my hand where the spear went into his side. I won't believe unless I do this!"

A week later the disciples were together again. This time Thomas was with them. Jesus came in while the doors were still locked and stood in the middle of the group. He greeted his disciples and said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and look at my hands! Put your hand into my side. Stop doubting and have faith!"

Thomas replied, "You are my Lord and my God!" Jesus said, "Thomas, do you have faith because you have seen me? The people who have faith in me without seeing me are the ones who are really blessed!"

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflecting on the Gospel - discussion

Even though Thomas did not believe his friends when they told him about Jesus, his friends did not abandon him or shut the door on him. They waited patiently until he came to believe.

Spend some time discussing the things you like about your friends.

Then think about ways you can be a good friend to others.

Jesus stood among his disciples and offered them peace.

Does your presence bring peace to your family? To your friends?

The Gospel Story

While the disciples were walking along the road to Emmaus, Jesus appeared to them, but they did not recognise him at first. They recognised Jesus when he broke the bread.

As the disciples were talking about this, Jesus appeared to them again. They were afraid and thought they were seeing a ghost, but Jesus showed them his hands and his feet. The disciples were filled with joy to see Jesus. They gave Jesus some fish to eat, and Jesus explained the Scriptures to the disciples.

The Gospel

A reading from the holy gospel according to Luke 24:35-48

It was written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead.

Then the disciples from Emmaus told what happened on the road and how they knew he was the Lord when he broke the bread.

While Jesus' disciples were talking about what had happened, Jesus appeared to them and said, "May God give you peace!" They were frightened and terrified because they thought they were seeing a ghost. But Jesus said, "Why are you so frightened? Why do you doubt? Look at my hands and my feet and see who I am! Touch me and find out for yourselves. Ghosts don't have flesh and bones as you see I have.

"After Jesus said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.

The disciples were so glad and amazed that they could not believe it.

Jesus then asked them, "Do you have something to eat?" They gave him a piece of baked fish.

He took it and ate it as they watched.

Jesus said to them, "While I was still with you, I told you that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Books of the Prophets, and in the Psalms had to happen."

Then he helped them understand the Scriptures.

He told them: "The Scriptures say that the Messiah must suffer, then three days later he will rise from death. They also say that all people of every nation must be told in my name to turn to God, in order to be forgiven. So beginning in Jerusalem, you must tell everything that has happened."

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Reflecting on the Gospel - discussion

Close your eyes and remember a time when you were confused or afraid. Maybe you were awake in the middle of the night? Maybe the electricity went out and you were in the dark until someone brought a torch or flashlight.Imagine how frightened Jesus’ friends must have been after they saw him being arrested and killed. When Jesus appeared to his friends again, they could see that he was alive and he explained that he had died so our sins could be forgiven. The disciples went out to tell everyone the wonderful news about God’s love and forgiveness.
