Dear Families,

The Sacrament of First Reconciliation

Congratulations to the students in Year 3 and others within the Parish who made their First Reconciliation last Saturday morning. Once again, I thank the class teachers and our REL for their teaching and preparation of our students.

As you are all aware the Sacramental Program is 'Parish Based'. This means that the enrolment, workshops, commitment Masses and home requirements are dictated and conducted by the Parish. Please be assured that the teaching of each Sacrament takes place in each classroom throughout our school Religious Education lessons.

Crazy Hair Day

Next Monday the 3rd April, students are invited to come to school with a crazy hairstyle. Please bring a gold coin donation if you want to participate in crazy hair day. The money will go to the Good Friday Appeal. This goes to the Royal Children’s hospital.

Easter Surprise

Easter is coming soon and the Easter Bunny may be coming to SJV before the end of term. Please let us know if you have an issue with your child receiving a small egg. They will be sent home at the end of the day on Thursday 6th April to be eaten at home. Please note the chocolate may have in it traces of nuts. (Cadbury)

Instagram

SJV is excited to announce we now have an Instagram account. This is to ensure we build an online community and communicate with our families and community in a format that showcases all the wonderful things we are doing. The account name is sjvmulgrave.

ANZAC Day

Term two will begin on the 26th April with a short ceremony held by the flagpole (weather permitting) to remember the ANZAC's. The ceremony will be delivered by our SRC representatives. Parents are welcome to attend.

This will take place at 9am on the oval.

Our Student Captains are selling ANZAC day badges and wrist bands at the front and back gates this week and next week until sold out. It is important that these are kept safely over the holidays and worn on the first day of term April 26th

Camp Australia - Holiday Program

Unfortunately our school will not host a holiday program at SJV for at least the ' First and Second term holiday period'. This decision is based on 2022 data.

We are aware of parents ongoing interest in having a Holiday Program onsite. and will continue to explore possibilities. We will let you know if this changes later in the year.

Please note that if we do have a Holiday Program at SJV, it will not be coordinated by Brigette (our School Coordinator) and it will be open to other students from other schools.

Holiday Programs for Term 1 holidays are located at various schools including the following:

Brandon Park Primary , Mulgrave Primary,

St Peters Clayton, Glen Waverley Primary and Glendal Primary. You need to go onto the Camp Australia website for further information about Holiday programs including booking instructions.

School Advisory Council

Yesterday the School Advisory Council met (5:15pm online). Other than the Principals Report we discussed:

Ways to grow our P&F
Canteen - a process to review what is working well and ways for improvement
The partnership with John Hannah Hostel
Capital Works
The progression of the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement for the Catholic Sector
Traffic management update

We will detail more about some of these items across the coming weeks of Term 2.

Our Advisory Council members consist of parent representatives from across the school:

Maria Smith (Chair), Han Le, Daniella Scaranto, Nick Caraccia, Cat Vonguyen.

The ex offico members are Fr David (Parish Priest), Jenny Willmott (Deputy Principal) and myself.

Traffic Management

The Council will be out to enforce Traffic Infringements around our school.

Please obey all signs.

Please note that Term 1 will conclude on Thursday 6 April at 2:30pm.

Term 2 School Closure Day

Please note that their will be a School Closure Day on April 24th (First Day of Term 2) Staff will participate in an RE Professional Learning Day

25th April is Anzac Day (Public Holiday)

Students will return to SJV on Wednesday 26th April.

From the office

Parents who wish to go on a holiday for 5 day or more MUST complete an Extended Period of Absence form. This form is available on our website and from the office.

Birthday Treats

Please do not sent any food items as Birthday Treats. These can not be supervised easily.

We have students who are anaphylactic and have allergies.
