Principal's Message
Term 2 is well underway and I must take this opportunity to congratulate everyone on their very positive start to a very important term.
I would especially like to congratulate our school leaders for 2018. Brittany Skeen and Lucy Coyle were elected Captains, and Jackson Valk and Samantha Gibbs were elected Vice-Captains. I am sure everyone would agree that Lake Illawarra High is certainly extremely blessed to have student leaders of such quality.
I would also like to congratulate those students who were recognised at our recent ROSE Assembly. These students have shown that they are taking responsibility for their learning and are excelling. Well done and keep up the effort.
Our students and staff have returned safely from their trip to Italy. From the feedback I have received, everyone had a great time and certainly learned a great deal. Thank you to Mr Wilson and Ms Mitchell for giving our students this terrific opportunity.
The school is always looking for ways that to improve our practice so that we can continue to support our wonderful students in their learning. One way that parents and caregivers can help us is by becoming a member of the P&C, which meets every first Wednesday of the month at 6.30pm in the library. It would be great to have as many people as possible attend these meetings and have their say on any issue that may interest them. There are no fundraising activities involved

Deputies' Report
This is a busy time of year for all of our students as we are moving through the assessment cycle in time for end of semester reports. Each year group has an allocated assessment week in which each subject will be assessing your student’s progress.
The deputies, teachers, year advisors and counsellors are available in the lead up to examinations and can offer specific advice to individual students about their examination preparations. Please contact the school and speak to Mr Meizer, Mr Wilson or the relevant year advisor if you have any concerns about your student.
Our ROSE assembly was a wonderful way to acknowledge the great work that our students display on a consistent basis in class. It was also great to see a large contingent of parents at the ceremony to watch their children receive their awards. Special thanks to Mr Dunkerley for his organisation and Mr Thistlethwaite for, once again, preparing the students who performed during the ceremony.
The cold weather has now well and truly hit us. Students are reminded that they need to be in full uniform each day. If they are unable to wear the correct uniform, they must bring a note from home explaining why. If families are experiencing financial difficulties please contact the relevant Deputy or Mr Hicks and the school will provide some financial assistance to assist in students being in the correct uniform.
A big congratulations to Jarrod Dyer who won Silver in the 50m 17-18 years Butterfly at the 2018 Georgina Hope Foundation Australian Age Swimming Championships. These championships were held at the Sydney Olympic Park and Aquatic Centre from April 21 to April 28 last term. The Age Championships are a fantastic opportunity for the future of Australian swimming to compete, right off the back of a home Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. Well done, Jarrod.
