2023 AUSTRALIAN MATHS COMPETITION

The 2023 Australian Maths Competition will be on Thursday, August 3 in the Hall during Periods 3 and 4. The list of students who will be sitting on the exam is attached. Please bring a well sharpened 2B pencil and an eraser. No calculator or ruler is allowed . The AMC is Australia’s longest running and most well-respected mathematics competition. First established in 1978, the AMC has engaged generations of Australian primary and secondary students in the joy of mathematical problem solving. The competition is a 60 – 75 minute problem-solving competition with five different papers appropriate for students in year levels from 3 to 12:

• Junior – Australian Years 7 and 8

• Intermediate – Australian Years 9 and 10

• Senior – Australian Years 11 and 12

The competition includes 30 unique problems that are designed each year by leading educators and academics to challenge and engage students’ mathematical problem-solving skills. Questions are drawn from core curriculum areas including :

Basic arithmetic

Fractions and ratios

Algebra and pre-algebra

Geometry Measurement

Statistics and probability

Problem-solving (including enumeration)
