Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to Term 3, Semester 2 and the final term of our Year 12 2023 cohort!

On the very first day back for students last week,  we commenced school with a special Naidoc Assembly followed by workshops for all year groups delivered by First Nations Performer, Scott Darlow. A special highlight of the Naidoc Assembly was the Wiradjuri Dance group consisting of four primary school students who performed for the College under the direction of Aboriginal School Community Worker, Mrs Lorelei Wray. Friday’s assembly also included special awards and acknowledgements for our Age Champions in Sports and students involved in Cabaret this year. Year 12 students then attended an information session regarding the upcoming trials exams and the HSC.

We also thank all parents and guardians also for their support for our professional learning day (pupil free day last Monday Week 1). This day was organised by Mr Damien Herb and Leaders of Learning and Curriculum. It allowed all Key Learning Areas and teachers to engage with the new NESA syllabuses being introduced over the next 18 months or so.

Year 10 and Year 8 students will be involved in subject selection processes, including information sessions,  over the coming weeks and beginning to make some important choices regarding their future patterns of study or training. We are very grateful to all the teachers, leaders and support staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our students benefit from first rate opportunities for their education.

This week I would like to draw your attention to the Catholic Education-Working in Partnership Commitment by Families and Schools. (Published in this newsletter). This commitment outlines the expectations for families who send their children to Marian or any systemic Catholic school in the Diocese of Wagga Wagga.

It is a mutual commitment and agreement ensuring that both school and families have a clear understanding of what they can expect when attending Marian Catholic College. The document is informative and supportive, allowing us all the opportunity to engage in a positive partnership designed to allow your child to flourish and be inspired with a love of learning and a heart of hope.

Congratulations to Year 12 student Molly Laurent!

Molly has been awarded a CEDWW Teacher Education Scholarship. Molly was a recipient of one of five $20 000 teacher education scholarships to commence in 2024. We know that Molly will make a fine teacher and are very proud of her success in this highly competitive scholarship.
