National Finals

The two-day Chess Nationals wrapped up a few weeks ago with another awesome result for Huntingtower teams. Again, we did not have any individuals in the top three of either competition, but both our teams performed very well.

Our Middle Years team was up and down throughout the seven-round event and went into the last round with a 1.5-point lead. In a thrilling finish, it all came down to the final game of the tournament where one of our players secured a draw. Had we won that game, we would have been National Chess Champions for the first time ever. Instead we finished in a very respectable 2nd place (same as last year), just 0.5 points behind the winners.

Our Open Secondary team competed in a much bigger and much stronger competition. They performed consistently over the two days and finished off in 4th place overall.
