Change in student leadership in 2019

It is with great sadness that we say farewell to Hafza Bakhiet, our elected female school captain for 2019. Hafza’s family have decided to re-locate to Ballarat so Hafza will complete her Year 12 studies at a new school. This means that Ella Kerr will step up to the captaincy role and our new female vice-captain will be Claire Macgill. Congratulations to Claire and we look forward to working her and the rest of the student leadership group in 2019. The new 2019 Year 12 cohort gave Hafza a wonderful and heartfelt send-off last Friday. We wish Hafza all the best in her new home.

Reporting

By now you will have checked XUNO for the latest SPA reports as well as the progressive online comments from our teachers. We are now in the process of completing our end of semester reports for students in Years 7 to 11. You will be contacted when these reports have been uploaded for viewing.

Year 12 Orientation Classes

Last week our 2019 Year 12 students attended Orientation classes and all students in VCE and VCAL programs have been given tasks to do before they return to school next year. Please encourage your children to be as well prepared as possible for next year as a positive start to the year will set them on the road to success.

Year 11 Orientation Classes

Next week (Mon, 3rd – Fri, 7th December) our 2019 Year 11 students (current Year 10s) will be attending Orientation classes and all students in VCE and VCAL programs will be following a timetable very similar to the one they will have next year. This is a very important week as students will be starting their first topic of work in each class and will be given work to complete over the holidays in preparation for their entry into VCE/VCAL.

Orientation Day for Year 6 students – Tuesday, 11th December (no Year 7 classes)

As December approaches, the process of welcoming our 250 new students for 2019 begins.

On Monday 10th December at 7p.m in the VISY, there will be a Parent Information Evening. New students and their parents attend this evening to prepare for the year ahead. Amongst other things, students will find out their Form, the name of their Co-ordinator, their Home Group and the House to which they will belong.

On Tuesday 11th December we welcome our new students to experience a day in the life of a Year 7 student at Wanganui Park. Grade 6 students will arrive in their primary school uniform, join other members of their 2019 Form and experience several classes throughout the day.

As the Year 7 teachers will be taking these classes on Orientation Day, our current Year 7 students are not required to attend on Tuesday December 11th.

Activities Program

On Monday, 17th December and Tuesday, 18th December, the school runs an activities program for students in Years 7, 8 and 9. The activities program is designed to give students experiences that they may not otherwise have access to. All junior students are expected to attend during this time.

Course Confirmation

Students progressing from Year 11 to 12 should have already received details regarding the course confirmation process on Wednesday, 5th December. Please contact the school for further clarification if required. On Wednesday 12th December our Year 10 to 11 students will take part in a similar process.

Wanganui On Show

Our annual awards night will be conducted at Eastbank on Wednesday, 19th December commencing at 7:00pm. Award recipients will be contacted in the week prior to the event.

Signing Out To Leave School

Most students are aware that if they have reason to leave school early, such as an appointment, they must sign out using the kiosk IPad at the Main Office. However a number of students are then simply leaving the school grounds. We still must have a parent/guardian to sign the student sign-out booklet at the Main Office. The kiosk IPad controls the electronic aspect of our attendance but the sign-out booklet is the authorisation by the parent/guardian for the student to leave. The Department of Education does not allow students to leave schools grounds without an adult. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
