REPTILE ENCOUNTERS

Year 10 DNA ALL The Way students were treated to a ‘show and tell’ from a Melbourne based educational provider. Reptile Encounters delivered a program that taught students about adaptation and evolution and how DNA governs both processes.

Students got up close and personal with some classic Australian animals, including a stumpy tail lizard, water dragon, crocodile, barn owl, a local aboriginal totem in the Murray river turtle, sugar glider, and pythons. The presenter talked about the concept of species and how geographical isolation (amongst other factors) can lead to changes in the DNA and ultimately lead to the evolution of new species.

Two of our exchange students happen to belong to Ms Utber’s DNA class and were lucky to be selected (or forced!) to get up and hold some of Australia’s unique wildlife.

Pictured below is Laurie (from Finland) and Cle’A (from France) meeting a crocodile.
