Year 10 & 12 Careers Sessions

If you are in Year 10 or Year 12 and have not yet booked an appointment with our Careers Counsellors, Ms Egan and Ms Giles, please ensure you do so early next term.

Year 12 students are currently meeting with the Careers team to support planning for post-school pathways. These conversations provide valuable guidance around course options, scholarships, and SEAS, ensuring students are well-informed and prepared for life beyond school.

Year 10 students are beginning their pathway planning for Year 11. These sessions support students in considering whether to pursue VCE or the VCE Vocational Major, as well as whether to incorporate a VET program into their senior studies.

To further support this process, a number of key events will take place next term as students prepare for their transition into Year 11 in 2027:

  • Careers Expo – Tuesday 28 April

  • Parent Information Session – Term 2 week 9

  • Subject Selection Expo – Term 2 Week 8

In Term 3, all Year 10 students will participate in a scheduled subject selection session. It is essential that students make informed decisions, as subject changes are often not possible once classes have been finalised.

Year 9 Students Considering an Accelerated VCE Subject in 2027

Studying an accelerated VCE subject (completing a Year 11 subject while in Year 10) is not automatically granted. Students are required to submit a formal application, which is carefully assessed against a range of criteria. These include demonstrated academic achievement, consistent learning behaviours, organisation, independence, and the ability to manage an increased workload.

Acceleration involves moving ahead by 12 months and engaging with more rigorous course content and assessment expectations. As such, students must demonstrate not only strong academic capability, but also a high level of motivation, resilience, and commitment to their studies. Consideration is also given to a student’s overall program to ensure they are able to maintain balance and wellbeing alongside their academic pursuits.

Students and families are encouraged to carefully consider whether acceleration is the most appropriate pathway, as success requires sustained effort and a proactive approach to learning.

Further information, including application requirements and timelines, will be shared via the Compass news feed next term, as well as at our upcoming information session.
