GRIP Leadership Conference
Earlier this week the leaders of Highvale attended the GRIP leadership conference at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. This was no doubt a memorable day, where we go to learn how to better ourselves as leaders and make our school the best it can be. We also got to meet and discuss with like-minded leaders from other school about leadership strategies. The conference held by the team at Deakin covered a variety of different topics including challenges faced at school, challenges of a student leader, what makes a school event successful, improving public speaking, creating a culture of positive friendships, getting a new idea off the ground and Tips for Leading Houses.
The experience was great learning opportunity and quite insightful for our leadership team, here at Highvale. We learnt strategies for managing leadership expectations, the importance of persevering when faced with challenges as well as how to prioritise issues within our school. We also had the chance to discover what other schools do to get their communities involved so that we can hope to adopt their strategies and implement these successful events into our school. Overall, the experience was an eye-opening and enjoyable one that our leaders greatly benefited from.

School for Student Leadership
Last year, Year 9 students were given the opportunity to apply to attend the School for Student Leadership for a term of their regular schooling at the Snowy River Campus. This is a residential program, with students living on-site alongside 40 other students from schools across Victoria.
3 Year 9 students were accepted into the program have spent this term at The Snowy River Campus, located in Marlo. During this time, students engaged in a specialised leadership curriculum rather than their regular schoolwork. The program is built around nine key concepts: Learning Strategies, Emotional Management, Resilience, Identity, Empathy, Respectful Relationships, Collaboration, Health & Wellbeing, and Environments. This experiential approach supports students’ personal growth, aspirations, and development as global citizens.
While at the School for Student Leadership, students from Highvale designed and developed their own Community Learning Project (CLP) which they will implement in Term 2 upon returning to Highvale.
Mrs Giles and I visited Ethan, Sona and Rayne for the presentation of their Community Learning Project- starting a Highvale Podcast! We look forward to seeing them fulfill their masterplan.
House Points
This term, our House Captains brought the energy to lunchtime by hosting Just Dance . Students from all Houses were invited to join in, with every participant earning a valuable point for their House.
The gym was filled with music, movement and plenty of laughter as students danced alongside their friends. It was fantastic to see such great participation and House spirit on display.
Beyond the competition, the event provided a perfect opportunity for students to unwind, connect with others and enjoy a well-earned break from their studies. A big thank you to our House Captains for creating such a positive and uplifting lunchtime experience!
Points Update
Bunjil leads the pack this term on 1318 points. The 2026 House Champions are announced at the start of term 4 with the winning House is rewarded with a free dress day and a treat!
