Principal's Report

Evan MILLER
Principal
As we reach the end of a very full and rewarding Term 1, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on what has been an outstanding start to the year at our College. Across the term, our students have embraced a wide range of learning opportunities, challenges and experiences with enthusiasm, resilience and a strong sense of community.
There have been many highlights, both inside and outside the classroom. Our Year 12 students began the year with a highly productive Study Camp, setting a strong foundation for their final year. Our Year 7 students have settled in beautifully, with their recent camp providing a wonderful opportunity to build friendships and confidence. We have enjoyed a vibrant calendar of events including Sports Days, our Swimming Carnival, Twilight Tunes, Dress Up Days and, of course, today’s Colour Run, which has provided a fun and energetic way to celebrate the end of term.
Students have also engaged seriously with their learning, completing NAPLAN testing, participating in Learning Conferences alongside their families, and, for our Year 9 students, undertaking Morrisby Testing to support future pathway planning. It has been pleasing to see the way our students have approached these important milestones with maturity and commitment.
Alongside these events, our staff have been deeply engaged in professional learning focused on strengthening teaching and learning across the school. This term, our work has centred on creating the best possible conditions for learning in every classroom. This includes building strong routines, fostering positive relationships and ensuring all students feel supported and ready to learn. You may hear students talk about “Do Now” activities at the start of lessons—these are short tasks designed to help students settle quickly and make the most of every minute of learning time.
Looking ahead, our teachers will continue to work collaboratively to further strengthen key teaching strategies such as checking for understanding, retrieval practice and providing high-quality feedback. This work is an important part of our ongoing commitment to improving student learning outcomes.
We have also continued to invest in promoting and celebrating our school. Recently, we partnered with our new uniform provider, PSW, to undertake a professional photo and video shoot at the College. Our students represented the school with great pride, and we look forward to sharing these images and videos with our community as we showcase the many opportunities available at our school.
Student voice has remained a strong focus this term. Through our newly established Principal’s Advisory Group, student leaders have provided valuable feedback on a range of school priorities, including important work around child safety. Their insights and perspectives play a vital role in shaping our ongoing improvement efforts, and we thank them for their thoughtful contributions.
It has also been a pleasure to represent the school more broadly within the education community. Recently, I attended a roundtable discussion with local principals, students, parents, and our local member, John Mullahy, where we were also joined by the Premier, Jacinta Allan. This provided an important opportunity to advocate for our school, including highlighting the need for updated facilities to support our senior students into the future.
Finally, we were proud to host a visiting Assistant Principal as part of the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership’s Unlocking Potential Program. This opportunity reflects the strength of our leadership practices and our commitment to supporting the development of future school leaders.
As we head into the Easter break, I would like to thank our students for their efforts, our staff for their dedication, and our families for their ongoing support. I hope everyone enjoys a well-earned rest, and I look forward to another exciting term ahead.
