e-Scooters at school
There are a number of student who have been riding their e-scooters to school. We have had concerned community members call the school to report some near misses whilst students are coming and leaving school. Please talk to your students about safety for e-scooter use.
Please read below for the legality of e-scooters.
Use of e-scooters is legalised in Victoria.
You can legally ride an e-scooter in Victoria if you:
- ride on:
- shared-use paths (not on footpaths), or
- roads that have a speed limit up to 60km/h
- are at least 16 years old
- wear a helmet
- do not travel more than 20km/h
- do not use your mobile phone
- do not carry a passenger (dinking).
To enforce these laws, Victoria Police can:
- stop riders and require them to state their name and address
- require the rider to undergo alcohol and drug testing
- impound privately owned e-scooters if relevant offending is identified
- impose on-the-spot fines if offending is identified
- issue charges to appear before a court if offending is identified
- issue an immediate driver licence ban if offending is identified.
Before school and after school supervision
Student safety at Cranbourne South PS is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.
Before school: School grounds are supervised from 8:45 am and students should not be entering the grounds prior to 8:40 am. Kiss N Go is manned from 8:45 am. The bag bell rings at 8:50 am and students should enter their classrooms to get ready for the day.
** students should not be dropped off earlier than these times
After school: School grounds are supervised until 3:45 pm with the Kiss N Go area manned from 3:30 pm to 3:45 pm. A bell rings at 3:45 pm.
Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they are attending a before or after school care program or supervised extracurricular activity).
Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending before or after school care, or a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. sports practice).
Families are encouraged to contact TheirCare via their website Families - Their Care for more information about the before and after school care facilities available to our school community or if you would like any further information about our student supervision arrangements.
For a copy of our school’s Yard Duty and Supervision Policy please see the school website - https://cranbournesouth.vic.edu.au/. The link is provided below. This policy includes Cranbourne South Primary School’s student supervision arrangements across the school day, including before and after school.
