CELEBRATING ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE@CSPS

Murrup Day Electives

This term, we were excited to run our Murrup Day electives for the first time. Students had the opportunity to choose from a variety of engaging activities based on their interests, creating a wonderful sense of choice, independence, and community.

The electives included baking, netball, dance, gymnastics, yarn art, printing and painting, and Japanese braiding. It was fantastic to see students trying new experiences, developing skills, and connecting with peers across different age groups.

A special thank you to the parents who generously gave their time to lead groups and share their skills and expertise with our students. Your involvement helped make the day such a success and enriched the learning experiences on offer.

We look forward to welcoming even more parents and community members to participate in our Term 4 Murrup Day electives.

Middle School News

This term, the Year 3 and 4 students have been exploring Australian History. As part of our learning, we investigated what life was like for Indigenous Australians before colonisation and examined the impact of the arrival of the First Fleet.

Through our shared class novel, Nanberry, students gained an insight into the experiences of both Aboriginal Australians and the early European settlers during this significant period in Australia's history. As part of our writing unit, students wrote diary entries from the perspective of a convict travelling to Australia aboard one of the First Fleet ships. They then carefully handwrote published copies of their work and stained the pages with coffee to create an aged appearance. To add an authentic finishing touch, the teachers carefully singed the edges of the pages, making them look like historical artefacts.

On Thursday 11th June, the Year 3 and 4 students visited the Melbourne Museum to further enrich their learning. During the excursion, students explored a variety of exhibitions, examined historical artefacts, and marvelled at the fascinating displays. The visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to connect their classroom learning with real-world historical objects and experiences.

It has been wonderful to see the students' enthusiasm and curiosity as they learn more about Australia's rich and complex history.
