Reconciliation Week in P.E

Throughout Reconciliation Week classes played various Yulunga Traditional Games. There are over 100 traditional sports, pastimes, and activities passed down through generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies. Students enjoyed making connections to games they play now and understanding how to make games inclusive for all.

Edor - a team chasing game from North Queensland where a runner tries to reach a goal line, but instantly switches roles with any opponent who tags them, causing the direction of play to constantly change.

Emu -  A chasing game from the Northern Territory where a single chaser tries to tag other players as they run between safe zones, developing agility and endurance without requiring any equipment.

Gorri - A target throwing game played with a larger, moving ball. Players take turns throwing tennis balls at it as it is rolled across the ground.

Apwerte - accuracy game where players take turns rolling a ball through a narrow gateway of central markers to score points with the lowest score winning.

Casey Netball Clinics

Thursday P.E classes were treated to netball clinics run by Casey Netball. These clinics tied in with each sub school focus on throwing and catching or game play and strategy. The students enjoyed learning new things from two of the Casey Demons players. The players commented on how well our students listen and their willingness to try things. We love having community sporting groups come into the school and showcase the local opportunities that are available to our children.

Division Cross Country

A few weeks ago 12 students braved the horrendous weather to head out to Pakenham to compete in the Division carnival. Every single one of them battled the course and the conditions in true Cranny South style.

An extra well done to Billie, Koby, Charlie and Maddix who finished in the top 10 and get to compete at Regionals later this term.

A massive well done to Billie who finished 1st in her age group!

Thanks to the parents who braved the conditions to support their children.

Another big term in STEM is coming to a close. Our Junior school students have been learning about coding and have been working with our BeeBots. They have been setting challenges for each other to solve using our BeeBot maps. The Year 2 students have been learning to code using the Sphero's where they need to give more detailed instructions to get their robot to move.

The middle and senior schools have taken a quick look at the water cycle before moving on to some digital technologies. They have been learning how to demonstrate their learning through the use of Stop Motion videos. They have been busily creating stories about the water cycle by using paper stop motion techniques.

Dance

From Week 6, all students have been learning about the Elements Of Dance- Action, Space, Body, Energy and Time. So far we have focused on Space and Action. All students have practiced games of Simon Says to use the High, Middle and Low space and moved from point A to point B with a focus on using the space across the stage in creative ways.

Through playing the game Snake-Bird-Gorilla, students have learnt about actions that are non-locomotor (completed on the spot) and locomotor (completed whilst moving). We then analysed which actions in their concert dance were locomotor and which ones were non-locomotor.
