At Whittlesea Primary School, the safety of our students, families and staff is a priority. Please remember to drive carefully when approaching the school, and follow the school zone and residential speed limits. We ask that families avoid using the staff carpark for dropping off in the morning as some staff are unable to park when they arrive.
School speed zones in Victoria are reduced-speed areas designed to keep children safe when they are travelling to and from school or using school crossings. Research shows that speed makes a big difference in the chance of survival if a pedestrian is hit by a car. At 30 km/h there is about a 90% chance of surviving. At 40 km/h this drops to around 60%, and at 50 km/h it falls to about 10%. This is why lower speed limits are in place around schools.
School zone speeds vary depending on the surrounding environment and signage. During school times, limits may include:
• 30 km/h in active travel precincts and some local streets near schools where there is limited safety infrastructure
• 40 km/h on arterial roads and local streets near schools, and where students may cross the road
• 60 km/h on rural roads with no school or pedestrian crossing where the usual speed limit is 80 km/h or higher.
School zone times are clearly displayed on signs. In Victoria, time-based school zones operate on weekdays during school terms between 8:00-9:30am and 2:30-4:00pm, and they do not apply on public holidays.
In the Corella Drive Estate, the speed zone is 50 km/h and in Plover Way (leading up to the school staff carpark) the speed zone is 40 km/h.
Police are conducting regular patrols and enforcing speed limits.
Thank you for helping keep our Whittlesea Primary School community safe by slowing down and staying alert in our school zone and staff car park.

We now have over 100 pavers permanently installed on the gym wall at the front of our school, and it looks amazing!
For just $50, your family can become part of our school's history. If you, a family member, or a local business would like to purchase a paver, you can place an order using the QR code below or by following this LINK.
The next stage of this project will feature lighting that shines brightly through the night, showcasing our strong connection to the community.
