Lilydale Heights College is a finalist in the ResourceSmart Schools School of the Year Award!
ResourceSmart Schools is a program offered by Sustainability Victoria that supports Victorian schools to embed sustainability across the school facilities, community and curriculum, while saving resources and money for the school. The ResourceSmart School Awards are Victoria’s largest sustainability celebration of students, teachers and volunteers who are working together in schools and the community to build the future we need. The 2025 theme is “Working Together” – we can achieve so much more when we work together, whether that’s with other students, other schools, other teachers, or the wider community beyond the school gate. By working together, our efforts combine to build the future we need!
We are so very excited and incredibly proud to announce that Lilydale Heights College was recognised as a finalist in not just one, but two categories for the ResourceSmart Schools Awards! The School of the Year category recognises outstanding sustainability achievement in Victorian primary and secondary schools through:
positive impact and innovation
addressing sustainability as a cross-curriculum priority in the Victorian Curriculum
engaging the broader community
improvements to campus operations and/infrastructure
sustainability leadership in the education sector/other schools.
None of this would have been possible without the inspiration and guidance of Ms Shannon Sargeant, who has also been recognised for her amazing leadership in sustainability as a finalist in the ResourceSmart Schools Teacher of the Year Award!
In other Sustainability news, have you bin thinking about what you can do about the recyclables at our school? Well, our blue Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) bins have arrived! Once set up, we encourage everyone at school to put their eligible recyclables into these bins. And, to celebrate this new program, we want your artwork displayed on them! Check out the information below – we’re wheelie looking forward to your entries!
