As part of Unit 3 English Area of Study, Writing About Play, Year 12 students have been taking part in childhood games like What’s the Time, Mr Wolf?, Simon Says and Heads Down, Thumbs Up. By returning to these games, students have been able to reflect on the role of play in their lives and how it made them feel—sparking ideas for their own writing. During the Success phase of each lesson, students participate in Discussion Circles, where they share their writing and offer feedback to their peers. This feedback has been invaluable, as students continue to experiment with voice, vocabulary, text structures and writing with purpose.

Write it Right!
Term 2 marks the beginning of our second ‘Write it Right’ program. Students have written short pieces based on a prompt relevant to an upcoming area of work: ‘Dystopia and Utopia’ for year 7s and The Stolen Generations for year 8s. They will then focus on their target skills in grammar and punctuation on their learning pathways.
The term two 'Write it Right' program will be geared to students’ individual skills and is further strengthened by the fact their starting point will be the skills they demonstrated last term. We look forward to tracking student learning growth in these two fundamental aspects of writing. To check in on your child’s learning growth, you can ask them to show you their ongoing Learning Pathway on their ‘Class Note’. This Learning Pathway will also be published in the ‘Learning Pathway Progress: Write it Write term 2’ in the coming week.
