Playground Eating Time Expectations

This fortnight, our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) focus is on showing responsible behaviour during playground eating time. Students will remain in their designated eating areas while eating, finish their lunch before leaving to play and make sure all rubbish and recycling is placed in the correct bins. Following these expectations helps keep our playground clean, safe and organised for everyone.

Why is this important?

Eating time is an important part of our school day. Staying in the correct area allows students to eat safely and gives staff the opportunity to supervise and support them. Finishing lunch before playing also helps students make sure they have eaten enough to stay energised throughout the day. Leaving eating areas clean and using bins correctly shows respect for our school environment and for others who share these spaces.

Students can demonstrate this focus by:

  • remaining in their designated eating area during eating time
  • sitting calmly and safely while eating
  • finishing their lunch before leaving to play
  • placing rubbish in the correct bins
  • placing recyclable items in the appropriate recycling bins
  • leaving their eating area clean and tidy
  • using their class lunch basket appropriately
  • following teacher instructions during eating time

Families can support this focus by speaking with children about the importance of eating their lunch, disposing of rubbish responsibly and helping to keep shared spaces clean.

By working together, we can help ensure our playground remains a safe, clean and enjoyable place for all students.
