Indonesian Trip

During the final week of Term 3, the Year 9/10 Indonesian class finally embarked on their much-anticipated study tour to Bali. The trip was filled with wonderful experiences and unforgettable moments that we will treasure for years to come.

One of the highlights was spending a week at an Indonesian school, where we had the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the local culture and learn traditional dances, art and customs. This was a fantastic way to begin our journey, allowing us to build connections with local students and gain an understanding of Indonesian life. Throughout the tour, we continued to explore and discover new experiences, from an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the zoo to the thrilling water slides at Waterbom Park. Each activity offered something unique, creating lasting memories and bringing us closer together as a group.

Our theme for the trip was Explore, Learn and Connect. Over the trip we were able to explore what Bali has to offer, learn new things, and connect with the people both in the school and on our trip. A huge thank you to Bu Schokman and the teachers for making this trip possible. It was an unforgettable experience! - Reflection from Isaac Kidney

Our school trip to Bali was a highlight that everyone in the class had been looking forward to, and it was certainly worth the wait. My favourite experience was Waterbom Park, with its exciting rides. I also enjoyed playing the gambang and watching the theatre performance at Bali Safari. These experiences deepened my understanding of Indonesian culture, as did observing local traditions and customs, such as the daily offerings placed at entrances. Exploring Bali gave me a greater appreciation of Indonesian culture and helped me feel more connected to the local people. - Reflection from Daniel Baker

Moonlit sanctuary

The Year 11 VM class spent time volunteering at the Moonlit Sanctuary as a part of their active volunteering certificate. The students have been able to work in the Wallaby Walk area at the sanctuary and this has an immediate positive impact on the animals in this area. We will continue working at Moonlit this term as a part of our community partnership with this wonderful organisation. - Mr Ken Berry

Year 11 & 12 VM Showcase

The Year 11 & 12 VM classes recently ran a Showcase event for their families to highlight the wonderful work they have done this year. This was a fully catered event with the Year 12’s cooking a range of beautiful dishes under the guidance of our resident chef, Mrs Naz Varghese. The Year 12’s cook with Naz each week so this is a fantastic way to finish their time in her class. This was our largest ever Showcase event with 90 people in attendance and the students did a great job presenting projects and running trivia for the group. Thanks go to Ulli Austermann, Naz Varghese, Ruby Woodward, Megan Penwarden and the tireless, Justin Mason for making this event so awesome. - Mr Ken Berry

Yr 9 Art Excursion to the City

Last week a group of Yr 9 students accompanied Mr Hingley for an all-day excursion to the city, in which we explored the Australian and International collections at the NGV (National Gallery of Victoria). Their exposure to abstract art in particular will no doubt inform their own practice as artists, when they get to create an abstract painting in the studio.

Memory boxes: Yr 9/10 Art Exhibition

A new art exhibition in L Block Foyer showcases our talented young artists in Yrs 9/10. Students completed a “Memory Box”, a 3D artwork representing a significant memory in their lives. Each artwork is unique, reflecting the individual person that God created each student to be! Artworks pictured are by Nate Oliver and Mason St Clair.

Year 9 & 10 Agriculture

The students have been working on a range of projects through the end of Term 3 and beginning of Term 4. They planted out a large area around the North Campus wetland and have been caring for these plants to help improve Biodiversity at the college. They have also been weeding the bushland area near N Block to remove noxious weeds such as Spear and Spiny Thistles. The students then feed the thistles to our goats, so it is a wonderful win win scenario. - Mr Ken Berry

Year 10 VM Industry

The Year 10 VM students are blessed to be able to work with Justin Mason once a fortnight. Justin teaches them construction skills with a focus on accuracy, safety and students developing initiative whilst working with their hands. They recently built a goat “head butting” creation using a punching bag and timber frame. We are looking forward to seeing the goats enjoy this new activity. They have also been building an outdoor lizard enclosure so that our school lizards can spend time basking in the sun in a safe environment. A massive thank you goes to Justin Mason for his patience and brilliant teaching. - Mr Ken Berry

VM Community Market Stalls

The Finals Fever community market at the end of Term 3 was a spectacular event bringing our wonderful extended Bayside family together. A huge thank you goes to the VM team (Ulli Austermann, Megan Penwarden and Ruby Woodward) and Secondary staff, who specifically came to help pack up the market.

The amazing and talented Justin Mason added his logistical expertise and tireless work ethic in setting up and then packing down the market. The VM stall net profits and stall fees enabled us to send $750 to Compassion. This equates to three and a half months of sponsorship for Aloi, Marvel and Brayen (Indonesia) and Magdala (Haiti).
