Visit to the Farm on North Campus
The ELC 4 children embarked on an exciting adventure as we visited the farm on the College's North Campus. With our parent helpers, Mr Berry and his VM students, the children practised their road safety rules, freezing their feet and walking safely across the road using the pedestrian crossing. Upon arrival, the children explored the farm environment, noticing fruit trees, vegetable gardens, ducks, and geese.
The highlight of the visit was when the group gathered inside the goat pen. There was much joy and laughter as the ELC children interacted with goats and VM students, feeding the goats small branches, stroking their coats, and carefully holding the young kids. Whilst exploring the garden beds and enclosures, the children found duck eggs in the vegetable garden and a nest of goose eggs in the goose pen. It was a wonderful day filled with hands-on learning and community connections. A very big thank you to our wonderful parent helpers, Mr Berry, and the VM students for your assistance in making this visit a great success!
Preparing the garden beds
With the arrival of warmer weather, our young gardeners have been busy preparing our vegetable garden beds for spring planting! The children worked collaboratively to clear away weeds, dig fresh soil, and get the garden ready for new growth. Whilst working in the soil, the children embarked on an exciting mini beast hunt. They were thrilled to discover wriggling worms, bright ladybugs, and roly-polies tucked under the leaves and dirt. The children explored our garden produce, finding fresh strawberries, chives, and mint. We look forward to watching our spring garden flourish over the coming weeks!

Preparing for our excursion
Building on our learning last term about how we can “fill someone else’s bucket,” the children have been exploring meaningful, age-appropriate ways to bless and care for our community. They have begun creating colourful marble-painted bookmarks for elderly residents, which will be personalised with Bible verses, and are learning songs to share during our much-anticipated excursion to Community Aged Care next month.
The children continue to develop confidence and independence by packing their bags at the end of the day, helping with mealtime routines such as setting the table and wiping the placemats after lunch.
Welcoming the use of Storypark
Next year, the ELC will be welcoming Storypark, an online platform that will help strengthen the connection between home and the ELC. Families will be able to enjoy updates, photos and glimpses of their child’s learning, experiences and developmental milestones, helping them feel more connected to their child’s day and learning journey. At the beginning of the year, families will be asked to review and confirm their permissions for the use of photographs. We remain committed to prioritising child safety and privacy through careful supervision, secure handling of children’s information, adherence to family permissions and the responsible sharing of images and updates. We look forward to embracing Storypark as a valuable way to partner with our families in their child’s learning journey. - Mrs Amy Hu, ELC Director
