SSV Greater Western Region Senior, Intermediate, Year 8 & Year 7 Boys Netball
On Wednesday 21st May BHS qualified 4 teams (Senior, Intermediate, Year 8 & Year 7) to the SSV Greater Western Region Boys Netball event at the Bluewater Leisure Centre in Colac. All four teams had very different paths to take through the competition.
The Senior Boys had two matches against Warracknabeal Secondary College (39 goals to 27 Goals) and Colac Secondary College (42 goals to 9 goals). Winning both matches secured BHS the overall win and the GWR Championship.
The Intermediate Boys through a bit of luck, found themselves back in the competition after Beaufort Secondary College withdrew their team from the competition. The team played three matches against Warracknabeal Secondary College (13 goals to 9 goals), Trinity College (4 goals to 25 goals) and Terang College (10 goals to 14 goals). The team finished in 3rd place.
The Year 8 Boys had three matches against Colac Secondary College (12 goals to 9 goals), Warracknabeal Secondary College (9 goals to 22 goals) and Camperdown College (15 goals to 12 goals). The team finished in a narrow 2nd place claiming the runners up pennant.
Finally, the Year 7 Boys didn’t have any opponents and received a walkover for the competition declaring them the GWR champions for 2025!
See below some thoughts from our Head of Netball Courtney McLean:
The Intermediate and Year 8 Boys have some raw talent and with some more training there is no doubt that they could be a state finals contender next year.
We’re very fortunate at BHS that so many students are willing to work outside of their comfort zone and give something new a try.
Our Senior Boys were looking slick, they have a handful of highly talented footballers and basketballers that all cross codes seamlessly. Not to mention, they are very well coached by Deb Hutchinson.
While we’re lucky to have a strong pool of players to select from we are equally as fortunate to have so many dedicated and knowledgeable coaches.
Good luck to our Year 7 & Senior boys, Deb and Charlie who will now compete at state finals in September.

SSV GWR Cross Country
On Monday 26th May BHS took 34 students on the annual trip to Warrnambool for the SSV Greater Western Region Cross Country at Reid/Mack Oval. The early weather forecast was looking pretty grim only for the weather gods to bless the event with mostly sunshine combined with textbook windy Warrnambool conditions. The course provided a challenge with some decent hills combined with on and off path racing.
The top 12 students of each age group qualify though to the SSV State Cross Country Championships.
All students who attended displayed enormous pride in running for the school and it was great to see plenty of BHS light blue out on course.
