Year 10 Drama Performance Night

On Tuesday 20th May the Year 10 Drama class performed our eclectic drama performances. There were four performances over the night from four different groups of Year 10s. These pieces were self-devised and under the title “Material World”.

There were a series of dot points we had to cover: a version of the king Midas myth, a series of short vignettes about how peoples' values impact they’re quality of life, a piece inspired by Robert Frost’s “Nothing gold can stay” and depiction of a material world and a piece that inspired a feeling of happiness.

Each group came up with a different piece for these ideas that  varied greatly.

These performances were definitely a labour of love and we put so much effort and thought into these. All the groups did so well and for some people this was their first time performing in front of a real audience, not just their fellow peers.

We were all nervous and had been working on these for weeks, counting down the days until it would be over. Or maybe waiting for when we would get the feeling of rush and joy you can get out of performing, even more so something you created yourself.

Everyone did so well and I know we’re all so proud of ourselves and what we were able to achieve over the short, very interrupted, time we had. Now that it's done all I can think of is how I could change it, what would be different with more time. But I love what we did and it holds a close place in my heart.

Beetlejuice Excursion

On Wednesday 21st May the Year 9-12’s went to see the production “Beetlejuice the Musical”, this was a thrilling experience. We travelled by train and walked up Collins Street to the gorgeous Regent Theatre.

The acting was incredible and the songs were catchy and tear inducing. I am so happy I was able to experience this with so many other drama students.  This will be something I remember forever.  Thank you to Miss Quick, Miss Jones, Miss Tyler and Mr Marcollo for supervising this amazing excursion.

Chamber Concert

Thursday 22nd May saw our first chamber concert for the year. Students playing the Tenor Saxophone, Trumpet and Trombone across Years 8 to 12, performed in small groups to a capacity band room crowd. We heard diversity in the selection and choice of pieces and each of the acts brought flair and energy to their performance. The gig concluded with Year 7 Trumpet and Trombone students playing together, all with tremendous excitement directed into the music beautifully.
