We were delighted to welcome our Food Technology Campaign Patron, George Calombaris (MOC1996), along with our generous community donors. Guests toured the facility and met with students as they prepared a range of dishes as part of their Food Technology curriculum.

The Mazenod Food Technology program for students in Years 8 to 10 has been a valued life skills program since the mid-1980s. The morning gave students the opportunity to showcase their learning in a modern, purpose-built environment designed to support practical skills and future pathways.

Thank you to all staff, students, families, and community sponsors who contributed to the opening and the development of this important new facility.

VET Career Investigation - Try a Trade

On Monday 30 March, the Year 10 VET Career Investigations students participated in a TAFE Try a Trade experience in bricklaying at Swinburne University’s Wantirna campus. It was a fantastic day out of the classroom, giving students hands-on exposure to a real trade environment and industry-standard facilities.

The students worked exceptionally hard throughout the day, showing strong enthusiasm, focus and commitment. The TAFE trade teacher was highly complementary, praising their work ethic, attitude and suitability for trade pathways. All the young men in attendance demonstrated the qualities required to become excellent apprentices in the future, making it a highly rewarding experience for everyone involved.

Year 10 Camp

Last week, our Year 10 students took part in the Wilsons Promontory Residential Camp at Tidal River.

Across three days, students stepped into a range of outdoor experiences including hiking to Mount Bishop, canoeing, surfing, kayaking, abseiling, and beach activities. Each challenge required effort, teamwork, and a willingness to step outside their comfort zone.

The camp plays an important role as students move into the senior years. It builds connection, strengthens friendships, and develops resilience through shared experience.

Helen is widely regarded as one of the leading performers on her instrument, with a career spanning more than 50 years at the highest level. While in Australia for the National Band Championships, she worked with our music students as they prepare for upcoming recitals and performances.

Her workshop focused on performance, musicality, and preparation. She also shared insights on building a career in music and the habits that support sustained success.

We thank Helen for her time and generosity in working with our students.

Our students delivered across the day, recording multiple first, second, and third place finishes in a competitive field. It reflects the work put in across the season and the commitment shown on the track and in the field.

Congratulations to St Patrick’s College, Ballarat on winning the Division 2 title.

We also recognise our Athletics Captains and Year 12 students for their sustained contribution to the program. Their leadership and effort have set a strong standard for the team.
