School Council

2027 Foundation Information Night

School Council members were in attendance at the Information Night held last week. This night was a wonderful opportunity for our incoming families to connect with each other and learn more about what happens at ENPS and how to best support their child as a learner and member of the ENPS community. School Council members were available to greet families and to help with answering questions.

There was great information presented about the importance of school readiness, particularly with self management of belongings, and the need for social emotional regulation skills. Students need to be able to successfully cope with both these components before they are able to effectively engage in teaching and learning of academic content. The Foundation team also covered the different presentations of learning that will happen for students. The use of play based learning to support application of taught skills and concepts was presented.

One of the final presenters for the evening was our president, Ben Suter. Ben helped to highlight what a wonderful community ENPS is. He also shared all the ways that families can get involved to help support, lead, and participate in the extra events and celebrations that we have to keep building our sense of community and identity.

Curriculum Days

One of the jobs of the School Council is to review and approve the dates for curriculum days. Curriculum days are an integral part of ensuring the high quality curriculum that is presented at ENPS. As with all aspects of the work we do, these days align with our guiding statements.

Some days are dedicated to professional development that ensures all staff receive current, high quality training in areas identified through our Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) for particular focus. Having all staff present at these sessions ensures consistency of message and allows for teams to talk strategically about implementation during reflection and planning times across the day.

Some student free days are for teams to work together on long term planning. These days allow for a more in depth review of the teaching and learning cycles that have been completed to date, while also looking ahead to how they can be scaffolded to support new learning. While teachers have time each week to meet as a team, that time is used for more specific weekly planning - the nitty gritty of what will happen. Planning days allow time to look at the term in its entirety to plot out our bigger goals and look for ways to strategically align curriculum areas. It provides opportunity to review assessment tools to ensure they align with the learning sequences and will provide opportunities for students to show what they know for reporting triangulation. Teaching staff also have time to explore the additional opportunities that would support the teaching and learning cycles: What resources do they have? What do they need to source? What incursions and excursions would enhance the curriculum outcomes? What risk assessments need to be completed for these?

Please check important dates on Compass and in the school newsletter so that you know when these curriculum days are and can prepare for them. We are grateful for your understanding of how very important these days are for the provision of a high quality teaching and learning environment. Thank you.

Warm regards,
