Academic Day of Excellence

On Monday, February 23rd, our College community gathered for one of the most uplifting events on the calendar: the Day of Excellence Assembly. This special occasion honours the hard work, dedication, and achievements of our Class of 2025.

Throughout the assembly, we celebrated students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to both academic study and vocational education. Their perseverance and determination were evident in the outstanding results acknowledged on the day.

A highlight of the morning was hearing from our 2025 Dux, Pramesh Silva. Pramesh applied himself diligently throughout his six years of secondary schooling, culminating in an outstanding ATAR of 99.65. He has now commenced a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Monash University.

Pramesh addressed the College community with remarkable maturity and insight, reflecting on his journey and expressing heartfelt gratitude to the many people who supported him along the way. He concluded his speech by offering a powerful and thoughtful articulation of Mazenod College’s core values:

“And at the heart of Mazenod is a motto we’ve heard countless times, stitched onto the crest on our blazers, “leave nothing undared for the Kingdom of God”

It’s easy to hear it as just a slogan, but its meaning reaches far beyond that. It’s a spiritual challenge – a call to courage, service, and purpose. For me, it became a challenge to approach my studies with purpose, discipline and integrity. It reminded me that academic effort isn’t just about marks – it’s about using our gifts fully, striving for excellence and doing so in a way that serves others.

Being named Dux isn’t about being the smartest person in the room. It’s about consistency, curiosity, and a willingness to keep improving – to truly leave nothing undared. It’s a reflection of the environment I’ve been lucky to grow up in – one filled with people who inspired me and made me better.”

The Day of Excellence Assembly is a powerful reminder of the thriving learning culture within our school and the collective effort that makes it possible. Congratulations to all award recipients and to every student who continues to show growth and determination each day.
