Senior House Volleyball
Yesterday during Open Day, the Senior House Volleyball Championship was held in the Provence. It was great to see House spirit on full display as the eight houses competed in a round robin format, followed by a final series.
There was plenty of colour, skill, and talent on display. All students showed great respect and endeavour across the day and should be commended on the way they participated in the tournament.
Congratulations to Gerard who defeated Cebula in the Grand Final to take out the trophy, with Luke (Year 12) being awarded the Grand Final MVP.
The following students were named House MVP:
House | Team MVP | Year |
Albini | Chase | 9 |
Anthony | Shawn | 11 |
Cebula | Gabriel | 11 |
Charlebois | Jaxon | 11 |
Chisholm | Edison | 12 |
Gerard | Daniel | 10 |
Grandin | Ethaniel | 9 |
MacKillop | Jayden | 11 |
Bingo, Business & Bright Futures
Matthew is a Year 12 VM student who is taking the business world by storm. He first demonstrated his entrepreneurial skills in Year 11 while assisting with Breakfast Club, an initiative led by VET Small Business teacher Mr Chris Windley. During these morning sessions, Matthew showed maturity beyond his years and regularly led the crew in making triple cheese toasties and hot jam donuts—long‑time favourites of both students and staff. This venture not only taught students the ins and outs of running a small business but also gave them the opportunity to direct profits to the Oblate street outreach, Rosies.
It came as no surprise that Matthew excelled in this area, as he has assisted with his family’s business, Billy’s Bingo, which runs events across Melbourne. The family operates a bingo business that is a firm favourite among dedicated players. Matthew supports both the setup and running of the sessions, and he brings excellent interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic to ensure all patrons feel welcomed and well cared for. Many of the regulars were willing to vouch for Matt’s professionalism, saying that he was obliging and willing to assist anyone who was experiencing issues.
Mazenod College sincerely thanks Matthew’s parents, David and Janette and the entire team at Billy’s Bingo, for their ongoing care, guidance, and support. The success of the VCE Vocational Major program relies heavily on employers who generously provide young people with real‑world experience in the industries they aspire to join.
If you have the capacity to employ a VCE Vocational Major student, please contact Mr Leigh Harris at lharris@mazenod.vic.edu.au or Ms Athena Beshir at abeshir@mazenod.vic.edu.au, our Vocational Education Leaders. Work placement days for Year 11 VCE VM Unit 1/2 students are Tuesdays, while Year 12 VCE VM Unit 3/4 students attend on Thursdays. We are particularly interested in employers in the tyre‑fitting or automotive industries, as we have a student eager for an opportunity to gain experience in these fields.
MACS Vision for Leadership Launch
On Tuesday 3rd of March, our students had the honour of performing at the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools' Vision for Leadership launch at the State Library of Victoria.
Our Coghlan Quartet provided pre-event entertainment as principals from MACS schools, key stakeholders and the Minister for Education arrived. We are incredibly proud of the professionalism and musicianship our students demonstrated at such a significant event.
2026 Open Lawn Bowls Champions
A massive congratulations to Chris Windley and the Open Lawn Bowls team on being crowned 2026 Open Lawn Bowls Champions in Division 1.
The team went through undefeated and comfortably won in the Grand Final.
A massive turnaround for Mazenod after playing in Division 2 for many years. This is a result of Chris's drive to get the students involved playing at Mulgrave Bowls Club, with scholarships and playing weekly pennant bowls.
Matthew's Ray White Work Placement
