  • On Monday, a number of students will be taking part in the Divisional Soccer and Mixed Netball competitions at Castlemaine.

  • Friday 14th August sees another group attending the CDSSA Athletics Carnival at Bendigo.

  • Wednesday 19th August – Mathlympics Day & Family Maths Night.

  • Friday 21st August - Kyneton High School Drama Performance.

  • Wednesday 26th August – Book Week Dress-Up Day ‘Symphony of Stories’ - We can’t wait to see the creative costumes being shared to celebrate our love of books!

  • Friday 28th August - Our Dream City ‘Robotics’ Incursion linked to our Inquiry Unit.

Term 3 Inquiry Unit - Energy in Action.

Through our inquiry unit this term, we will explore electricity and how energy is transferred through electric circuits. We will also be using digital systems and coding to share our knowledge and understanding.

Here are some of our wonderings that we collected for our ‘Wonder Wall Questions’ display.

  • Why does energy transfer through some things but not others? Noah.

  • I wonder how electric circuits work. Lily C

  • How do you make an electric circuit? Alex

  • I wonder how electricity travels from one place to another. Lexi

  • What are the different parts in an electrical cord? Pip

This week, we began our research into the history of electricity, some of the findings made by scientists and how we have expanded our use of electricity. Students summarised their research and presented this using a timeline format.

Here are some of the informative timelines created by the students.

Literacy

This term, we will be exploring the langage and structure of explanation texts and writing to explain some of the scientific processes linked to our inquiry unit. Student will also develop their understanding of procedural texts by writing detailed scientific reports to explain and present the findings of some of the investigations and experiments they complete.

From week 3, students will begin presenting a favourite picture story book or a chapter from a favourite novel during our ‘Guest Reader’ sessions. Students will be developing confidence, reading fluency and effective presentation skills during these sharing sessions. Each student will be given a date to present their chosen text during the next 5 weeks.

Maths

In Maths, we have been using prior knowledge of equivalent fractions when adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators. This unit will also include calculating fractions and percentages of amounts.

Later in the term we will explore probability through conducting and comparing chance experiment and investigate nets and cross-sections of 3D objects.

Home Learning

A new set of Home Learning tasks went home this week, with copies posted on Google Classroom. These task are due on Friday 31st July.

Thank you for your continued support.
