EXCEL Sport Program

Year 9 EXCEL NFL Tag

On Tuesday 31 March, our Year 9 EXCEL Sport class competed in the NFL Flag U15 VIC Championships at Princes Park. Unfortunately, I had to make a heart breaking and tough decision to choose only 10 competitors to represent Patterson River Secondary College due to competition rules.

It was a great day with our EXCEL Sport students playing outstanding against many competitive NFL Flag teams across Victoria. Well done to Angus L, Asri J, Ayla O, Baxter Q, Eamon P, Frankie C, Harrison D, Lenny G, Nate T and William R for their competitive spirit and continuous improvement throughout each game. Our team finished with 1 win, 1 draw and 2 losses against teams that went on to play in the Grand Final.

We finished 3rd in our strong pool and played Southern Cross Grammar in the consolation final. The team played brilliantly and won convincingly, 34-0, finishing 5th overall out of 10 schools in a strong field.

I am not only impressed by our players but proud of the entire class for their support and encouragement throughout the entire day. Your team spirit off the field does not go unnoticed. Thank you to Mr. McCormack for your assistance on the day.

Year 8 EXCEL Sport 3x3 Basketball Secondary Championships

On Tuesday 28 April, the Year 8 EXCEL Sport class had two teams in Division 2 representing Patterson River Secondary College in the U15 3x3 Cup Secondary State Championships at the State Basketball Centre.

The Patterson River Secondary College Blue team was made up of Aiden VL, Hudson G, Leo K and Titus U who went undefeated in the five pool games that they played. Unfortunately, they lost in the quarter-finals 15-17 against Tintern Grammar in the final seconds of play after dominating the entire game. A disappointing end to the tournament after only losing one game throughout the Qualifying and State Championships series, but still a great effort from the boys, well done!

The Patterson River Secondary College Pink team consisted of Evie O, Hannah K, Isabella G and Mila M, they went on to win four out of the six pool games.  The girls played Flinders Christian Community College in the Quarter-finals and won 16-15. Progressing to the Semi Finals, the girls played in a tight contest against Carey Baptist Grammar School who were undefeated but unfortunately just fell short 11-13. The girls displayed great teamwork all day, improved dramatically and worked beautifully together.

Congratulations to both teams for competing at the State Championships and a big thank you to Seb M and Mackinley V for scoring all day!
