Year 7 Onomatopoeia Stories

Ms Frasers Year 7's were tasked to write a story about a fear using sensory words and onomatopoeia.

The Roller coaster

“WHOOSH!” the roller coaster zoomed by in an instant. I was next in line and I was nervous; I’ve never been on a roller coaster before and this was my first time. The icy air gave me chills. The ride stopped dead in front of my feet and the people were getting off. But then something hit me, I was about to get on. As soon as I got on, I made sure the lap bar was secured tightly on my lap and wasn’t going anywhere. “Ladies and gentlemen, the ride is about to start so brace yourself.”

The rain was heavily hitting my face. Then it started, we were moving up fast. I wasn’t ready for anything. Everyone was thrilled and excited, meanwhile I felt like I was going to die. Then came the drop. We were about to fall but then suddenly. “CLANK!” The ride echoed behind us and stopped dead in its tracks. It was stuck in place. “Attention everyone the ride has stopped due to technical issues we will have everyone down in a tick.”

But I started smelling something weird. It smelt like fish. Then I realized that was a faulty wire. We were going to drop with no safety whatsoever. I was panicking, I thought the coaster was going to fly across the tracks. Nonetheless I can’t get off. But I heard a voice behind me, it was a staff employee coming to help us get off. I was relieved, we were saved. “Please help us get off!” I said in a panic. When he was reaching for the lab bar the ride started up again.

We blasted up the rail and dropped down faster than we should’ve gone. I was horrified, I didn’t have time to think, I was too busy worrying for my life. I look to my right to see an electrical box down at the ground “KILL THE POWER!” I screamed. Luckily a worker heard me and ran straight for it and ripped the case open. He saw a lever and pulled it. “Click!” The ride stopped and everyone knew the ride couldn’t start up again.  So, everyone pushed up their lap bars and quickly jumped off the ride because it was within an acceptable jumping distance above the ground.

It was a very traumatic experience for me. I never went back to a theme park ever again. Until I heard there was a new ride up in the Gold Coast. I decided to go back and I got on the ride. It was a blast it was fun and thrilling. That day I lost my trauma for roller coasters.

Home Alone

“Creeeeek” The front door swung open. One late Saturday night, home alone, my heart pounding in and out of my chest, a million and one thoughts running through my head.

I lay awake restless in bed. I hear “Crruunch Crruunch Crunch" coming from downstairs, I ponder to myself what could be or worse who could it be. There was only one way to find out, I urged myself out of my bed and down the staircase my hands tightly clenching my pyjama shorts.

A shadow appeared in the kitchen, I shove myself in the laundry room. As I shut the door I feel the dark enclosing on me, I take three deep breaths in and out and in and out I pause smelling the air. The scent was familiar, not washing detergent, something sweeter like… Popcorn?!

My hands shaking, I open the door cautiously, peering one eye out I notice who the figure was. I walk out to the kitchen to find yep, my little brother Ollie eating the last bag of rainbow popcorn. It turns out I was supposed to pick him up from the skate park 2 hours ago! Whoops guess mum and dad won’t let me babysit again.
