Year 7 Tennis

Our Year 7 Tennis teams enjoyed a great day of competition and learning at Frankston Centenary Tennis Club on Friday 24 April. With only one other school entering the event, students had the great opportunity to play full sets to six games, giving them valuable match experience and plenty of time on court.

Both our boys and girls teams competed against a very strong Frankston High side. While the boys were unable to secure a win, losing their four singles and two doubles matches, they demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day. Their positive attitude and willingness to keep competing against tough opponents was commendable.

The girls also faced challenging matches, losing their four singles and two doubles contests. However, the highlight of the day came from Annabelle and Lulu in their doubles match. They delivered an impressive performance, pushing their opponents all the way to a 5-5 score line before narrowly missing out in the deciding game.

It was a beautiful day in the sunshine and all students represented the school with pride. The girls, in particular, showed great improvement in their tennis skills, with noticeable progress in their serving as the day went on. They also developed a much stronger understanding of the game, gaining confidence in scoring and umpiring matches.

Well done to all students involved for their effort, resilience and excellent representation of the school.

Intermediate Boys Netball

Our Intermediate Boys Netball team competed in the Northern Peninsula Division competition on Thursday 7 May at Jubilee Park Stadium, a fantastic indoor facility that provided a great environment for the day’s competition.

The boys played four matches throughout the day. In the opening game against McClelland College the team took some time to settle and find their rhythm as they worked on building combinations together. Despite their efforts they went down 4-2 in a close contest. In the second game they showed improvement, with better movement down the court and fewer errors leading to a well-deserved win against Elisabeth Murdoch College. Confidence continued to build in the third match, with the boys playing some excellent netball and recording a 10 goal victory over Monterey Secondary College. The final and deciding game against Carrum Downs would determine progression to the next round. In a tough and closely fought match, the boys gave their all but unfortunately went down by just one goal.

The team finished the day as runners-up overall in the Northern Peninsula Division competition. Throughout the day, all players demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, teamwork and great athleticism.

Well done to all involved on a fantastic effort and for representing the school so positively.

Junior Boys Netball

On Thursday 7 May the Junior Boy teams competed in the Netball Northern Peninsula Division at Jubilee Park Stadium. It was a great day of netball with boys representing Patterson River Secondary College with outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork and determination.

The Year 7 A team was made up of Ashton B, William M, Josh M, Spencer A, Jacob E, Dimitri B, Mike M and Will L. The boys finished the day with two wins and two losses and got better each game they played, working amazingly as a team. They ended their day with a win of 13-2. Awesome teamwork boys! Massive thank you to Tripp W for scoring the entire day with an awesome attitude.

The Year 8 B team featured Will S, Ollie S, Josh H, Jude C, Fergus M, Oscar J and Jacob O who played up in the intermediate competition. They did a great job during their four games with no subs. Each game they got stronger as a team and refined their netball skills. Every game was a well fought battle until the final siren. Well done on a great day of competition!

The Year 8 A team consisted of Titus U, Van L, Judson C, Seb M, Ashton F, Baxter R, Sam S, Hudson G and Kobe A and they had a fantastic day. The boys showed great teamwork and chemistry on the court, playing as though they had been playing netball together for years, which resulted in four strong wins. The boys should be extremely proud and have progressed through to the regional competition. We are keen to see them continue their great form and achieve more strong results.

All junior boys demonstrated excellent sportsmanship by showing respect towards opposing teams, umpires and staff. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented themselves and the school throughout the day. Thank you to Ms Crilley and Ms Vilarino for their awesome coaching of the Year 8 teams.

Interschool Sport

Term 2 has been another busy and exciting time for Patterson River Secondary College Interschool Sport, with students across a range of year levels representing the school with enthusiasm, determination and excellent sportsmanship.

Our Year 7 students recently attended their very first interschool competition day. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to experience representing the school, competing against other schools and building teamwork and confidence in a competitive environment.

A special congratulations goes to our Boys Cricket team, who were the only team on the day to finish as winners and progress through to the next stage of competition. The boys displayed excellent effort, teamwork and skill throughout the day and should be very proud of their efforts.

Our Senior Sports teams also competed this term across Soccer, Netball and Badminton. While none of the teams were able to progress through to the next round, all students represented Patterson River Secondary College with great pride and sportsmanship and should be commended for their commitment and attitude throughout the sports played.

Another highlight this term was the strong involvement in the Boys Netball competition. Patterson River Secondary College entered an impressive six teams, including:

2x Senior teams

1x Intermediate team

2x Year 8 teams

1x Year 7 team

It was fantastic to see so many students involved and enjoying the opportunity to compete. Congratulations to our Year 8 Boys A Netball team, who had an outstanding day and successfully progressed through to the next round after winning the day.

Finally, our Senior Girls AFL team represented the school with great pride and conviction. Despite only having 12 players available on the day, the team showed resilience, worked hard all day and most importantly enjoyed the experience together.

We thank all students and staff involved in Term 2 interschool sport so far and look forward to more opportunities and success throughout the remainder of the term.

Cross Country Trials

On Tuesday 5 May, students took to the course for the annual Patterson River Secondary College Cross Country Trials, with competitors tackling a challenging route around the school grounds and the Seaford Wetlands running track.

It was fantastic to see so many students getting involved and pushing themselves throughout the event, with plenty of determination, encouragement and house spirit on display along the way.

Congratulations to our overall winners on the day. In the Year 7 division, Seth L was the fastest male runner, while Chloe S took out the girls title with an outstanding performance. In the Year 8–12 category, Finn D claimed first place for the boys and Hannah K finished as the leading girls runner.

A huge congratulations also goes to all students who finished in the top 10 of their age group, earning selection to represent the school at the NPD Cross Country Championships on Thursday 28 May. We wish all competitors the very best of luck for the next stage of competition.

A big thank you must go to all staff involved in organising and supervising the event, as well as our Year 10 EXCEL Sport students, who did a fantastic job helping run the day and ensuring everything operated smoothly.

Well done to everyone who participated and represented their year level with great effort and enthusiasm!
