Term 3 Sport Update – Doncaster SC Shines on and off the Field!

As we reach the halfway mark of Term 3, I couldn’t be prouder of what has already been an outstanding term of sport at Doncaster Secondary College. From interschool triumphs to our own thrilling intraschool competitions, Term 3 has showcased the incredible talent, teamwork, and school spirit of our students.

 Intraschool Highlights:

The DSC Senior 3x3 Basketball Tournament – The John Timms Shield returned this term with electric lunchtime action, packed crowds, and fierce rivalries. The competition has not only been a showcase of basketball talent but also a celebration of house spirit and student engagement. A big thank you to all teams and spectators who have contributed to the energy and atmosphere. Congratulations to the Boars (Josh M, Vaughan D, Nathan M and Theo K) for coming away with the win in the grand final after being the bench mark team the entire tournament.

Meanwhile, the Franc Brogno Cup – DSC Senior Futsal Tournament is well underway, delivering goals, drama, and (plenty of) friendly banter! Each match has brought out the best in our senior students, with the stadium roaring during lunchtime clashes. The final stages are set to be unmissable.

Interschool Success Stories:

Regional Champions

  • Senior Boys Soccer – Regional Champions after a commanding performance throughout the day.
  • Senior Girls Soccer – Regional Champions, showing determination, skill and composure in clutch moments.

Regional Finalists

  • Senior Boys AFL Regional Finals – A terrific display of resilience and hard work in tough conditions.
  • Senior Girls Badminton – A strong showing and wonderful team spirit.
  • Intermediate Girls AFL – Gutsy effort and elite resilience across the day.
  • Year 8 Girls Soccer – Runners-Up after a fantastic campaign, narrowly missing out in the final.
  • Senior Boys Basketball – Represented the school with pride, showing impressive teamwork and flair.
  • Senior Girls Basketball – Battled through tough competition and left it all on the court.

Each of these teams has worn the Doncaster badge with pride, displaying not only athletic ability but also the values of respect, sportsmanship and resilience that we prioritise at Doncaster SC.

Division Athletics Carnival:

Earlier this term, over 100 Doncaster students proudly competed in the Division Athletics Track & Field Carnival. From sprints and jumps to throws and relays, our students gave it their all. The participation, positivity, and support shown throughout the day was phenomenal, and we had a large number of event winners and placegetters – a credit to their preparation and effort.

🌟 Student Sporting Success Beyond the School Gates:

Doncaster SC continues to be represented proudly outside of the school setting, with some amazing achievements over the recent holidays at the national level.

A huge congratulations to Gia Kapsimallis, who represented the U16 Victoria Blue side at the Emerging Matildas National Championships. Gia was a standout across the tournament, finishing as the team’s leading goal scorer, and playing a key role in Victoria’s 1-0 Grand Final win over favourites New South Wales. A brilliant achievement and one we are extremely proud of – well done Gia!

We also acknowledge and congratulate Aliyah Evagorou-Alao, who was selected for the U15 Victoria Blue team. Her selection is a reflection of her dedication, training ethic and talent – an incredible honour to wear the Big V on the national stage.

To all our student athletes – well done and thank you for your contributions so far this term. Your commitment to training, competition, and representing Doncaster SC continues to make the sport program a vibrant and vital part of our school culture.

Let’s keep the momentum going into the back half of Term 3!
