Performing Arts

Term 1 in Performing Arts
It’s been a fun and creative start to the year in Performing Arts! Students across all year levels have been exploring music through singing, playing instruments, and experimenting with sound in different ways.
Prep
Our Prep students have been exploring sound and silence through singing, listening, and playing instruments. They explored loud and quiet sounds, practised copying and creating simple rhythms, and began learning to sing together while matching pitch. They were also introduced to basic musical symbols like ta and ti-ti.
Grade 1/2
Students in Grades 1 and 2 have been building their singing confidence through a variety of songs, including call and response and rounds, and have been working on keeping a steady beat. They explored rhythm by connecting syllables to sound patterns and making up their own lyrics to familiar songs. They also enjoyed playing tuned instruments like xylophones and boomwhackers, performing different parts of songs such as basslines and melodies.
Grade 3/4
Grade 3 and 4 students continued to develop their singing skills, focusing on staying in time and singing tunefully. This term, they were introduced to the ukulele, learning about its parts, how to pluck strings, and beginning to play simple melodies and chords.
Grade 5/6
Our senior students explored the elements of music and how they help create mood and meaning. They experimented with using instruments to represent different ideas and emotions. Students also had a great time learning about Foley, recreating sound effects for cartoons using a variety of creative techniques.
