Year 1/2 Report

Term 1, 2026

Welcome to Term 1 in Grade 1/2!

Welcome back to a brand new school year! It has been wonderful to see students return refreshed, excited and ready to learn. In just one short term, we have already achieved so much, with incredible learning and growth across all areas.

Meet the team

1/2 A- Ms Carla Asta

1/2 B - Mr Akshit Sidana

1/2C- Mrs Vesna Monsone/Ms. Jacquie Connors

Supported by our wonderful Education Support staff:  Aleyna, Kim, Ibadet, Merna and Deema.

What have we been learning about this term?

English

In English, students have practised writing recounts by retelling personal experiences in a clear and organised way. We focused on sequencing events, using simple time connectives and including key details. Students also began our exciting new phonics program, UFLI, and are already building confidence in decoding and spelling words.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we focused on developing strong foundations in counting, recognising patterns and understanding place value. Students have engaged in hands-on activities to explore number sequences and identify repeating patterns. We also worked on grouping numbers to better understand hundreds, tens and ones, supporting students' overall number sense.

SEL

In Social and Emotional Learning, students explored what it means to be a good friend through kindness, inclusion and respectful communication. We discussed how to manage our emotions when things don’t go our way and practised simple strategies to help us stay calm. Students are building confidence in recognising their feelings and responding in positive, thoughtful ways.

Reminders

  • School starts at 8:50am each day. It is essential that students are at school by 8.50 am as phonics lessons start at 9am sharp. Coming to school late even 10 mins each day means your child is missing important literacy instruction every day.
  • Read at home for 10 minutes each night. Students are reminded to complete their reading logbooks and return/borrow home reading books each day.
